Jockey Quotes: Bill Ritchie Handicap

Find out what the beaten jockeys made of their runs in the Group Three Bill Ritchie Handicap at Royal Randwick.

Michael Walker (Comin’ Through): “He is a very good horse, he is the reason i got down to 53kg to make it today. He let the leader come back and head him, he eyeballed it, found the horses on the outside and kicked again.”

Glyn Schofield (Havana Cooler): “They just ran him off his feet.”

Blake Shinn (Tom Melbourne): “Very gallant effort. Take nothing away from the winner, though having to concede 4kg was probably the telling factor. Full credit to my horse.”

Tim Clark (Burning Passion): “He had a lovely run on-speed, he controlled it well, horse is going as good as ever. Would appreciate a little bit of rain about.”

Andrew Adkins (Pajaro): “Great run coming off the back of a nice tempo. He hit the line strong and will be better second up.”

Brenton Avdulla (New Tipperary): “He’s a quirky horse when he doesn’t want to go, he doesn’t want to go, which was sort of mid-race today. I was happy with his last 400m, I think he is in for a good preparation. If Joe (Pride) finds the right race for him next time over a mile he’ll be hard to beat.”

Jeff Penza (No Doubt): “When the tempo backed off he just want to over-race a little bit, it turned into a little bit of sprint for him at the end. He still whacked away pretty well.”
