Jockey Quotes - 2019 Provincial Championships Final

Triumph for Hawkesbury trainer Bernie Kelly and jockey Koby Jennings after Bobbing claimed the title of Provincial champion.

Find out what the jockeys made of their mounts after the $500,000 Polytrack Provincial Championships Final (1400m) at Royal Randwick.

Koby Jennings (Bobbing): “He was way too strong and way too tough. I pretty much did the same thing as what I did at Wyong. He proved today he was too good.

“Bernie [Kelly] and his team and all of the owners have done a fantastic job with him. The form speaks for itself with the way that they can place him and they’ve pulled off a big one.

“I knew he was going to be good enough to win this. I actually started to get a bit nervous and I don’t usually get nervous.

“I know he [Bernie] was nervous. I had a good chat to him in the jockeys’ room before the race. We knew we had the right horse to pull it off but I didn’t think he would be able to pull it off like that.”

Bobbing wins the Provincial Championships Final

Blake Shinn (Spring Charlie): “Bit of a tragedy beaten I felt. Just the momentum of the winner outside and I was inside looking for runs. But a brave effort, really hit the line strongly and luck in running wins the race.”

James McDonald (Chalmers): “He ran really well. Got back, finished good. He’s probably looking for a mile.”

Hugh Bowman (Turnberry): “He had topweight and he didn’t get much peace from a wide draw but he battled on well.”

Chad Lever (Archedemus): “He ran well. Didn’t really get clear running for the majority of the race. Travelled well throughout but just didn’t have anything at the finish when I did get a bit of room.”

Glyn Schofield (Golden Tycoon): “He travelled nicely behind the leader but he didn’t quite run it through.”

Jason Collett (Safado): “Disappointing. Had every chance.”

Josh Parr (Oakfield Twilight): “Over-travelled in front and was found wanting late.”

Travis Wolfgram (Miss Redoble): “Tried hard.”

Tim Clark (Bangkok): “She was very game. Tried her best but she’s just a few lengths off that class.”

Winona Costin (Bye See): “Super run. She has a really nice run throughout and got a split down on the fence. She was really gutsy late.”

Grant Buckley (Oakfield Missile): “Had a really nice run. Just a shame the splits didn’t come a little bit earlier. Hit the line really well, really good run.”

Adam Hyeronimus (Eugene’s Pick): “I thought the run was great overall. She’s just a bit one-paced so I think if she can get to Queensland over a bit further in a mares race she can be very competitive.”

Corey Brown (Mandylion): “Very flat. I reckon she’s come to the end of the road. She’s very honest and she sat on the bridle solid but she didn’t have any kick at all. I think she’s ready for the paddock.”

Robbie Dolan (Fuchu): “Ran terrific. Just didn’t travel at all throughout the race but gee he came home strong. He’s probably getting to that stage now where he might want the mile or even a set of blinkers on.”
