In-Form Widdup Stable To Continue Excellent Form At Kembla

The last time Aberration went to Kembla Grange, he split Smartedge and Travancore before Christmas and even trainer Brad Widdup admits “that is good form.”

“After Monday you would think that he has come out of a strong race,” Widdup said. “He is much fitter for that run and I think we have found him a winnable race.”

Travancore photo finished Smartedge at Randwick on New Year’s day, while Widdup has chosen an easier path for Aberration [$2.40 favourite on TAB fixed odds] in the Shane Eades Transport Class 1 Handicap back at Kembla Grange on Wednesday. He is one of trio of runners for Widdup at Kembla and will continue his good run with horses out of Godolphin.

Aberration became a member of the Widdup team which is helping give his stable a profile, after Dynamic Syndications brought him at a tired horse sale.

Widdup used to work to work at Godolphin and picked Aberration as a horse that could give a good return by going through his grades with a couple of wins.

“When you are starting out like we are at the moment you need these older horses to give you runners and exposure,” Widdup said. “The horses Dynamic have been able to buy out of Godolphin have been real success stories for us and our owners because they are given an immediate return.

“Aberration and Silent Sea will try to become another couple of winners for us from that project and all of them have been able to run good races. We really haven't had a bad one. It is a good way to get owners into the game because you don’t have to wait long for them to be racing and they can gallop.”

Silent Sea [$9.50] will have her second run for Widdup in the Resolutions Class 2 Handicap after being one of six blown away by Sasso Corbaro first-up on her home track of Hawkesbury.

“I probably found a pretty tough race for her first-up and she needed the run,” Widdup said. “I think Cradle Mountain [$2.20 fav] is in good form and will be hard to beat but Silent Sea will improve and I think she will enjoy the 1200m.”

Heartaches [$7.50] is Widdup's other runner who will start in the opening event at 1:25pm.
