Hawkesbury Winners - Tips For Wednesday 20th March

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Wednesday’s meeting at Hawkesbury. Selections based on a heavy track.

Race 1 – 1:20PM IRON JACK PLATE (1000 METRES)

4. Disco Mo has only had the one trial leading into his debut but it was on a soft 7 last Thursday and he found the line quite well into third. He’s struck a winnable race and appears as though he’ll handle the conditions. Go well.

Dangers: 5. Great Affair has taken a while to make it to race day and doesn’t have any exposure to a wet track in trials but is well worth keeping safe. Led them up in his trial at Rosehill back in December and held on well. Not seen since so be guided by the market. 6. Silly Sally was a big drifter on debut back in May last year and led before running third at Wyong. Easy trial winner on her home track a few weeks back, no wet track exposure but keep in mind 1. Glowing Cat wasn’t beaten far when he last raced back in October at Nowra but is another who is a question mark on a wet track. No big guide from the trial but if there’s support he could run well.

How to play it: Disco Mo WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 1:55PM BLACKTOWN WORKERS CLUB HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Rexx is in a race he can win if he handles the conditions. Only try on heavy was on debut and he’s changed stables since then. Good form around his three placings on end and bumped into a smart one last start and ran the third fastest last 600m (Punter's Intelligence) of 34.70 after getting going before the turn. Hard to beat, the risk is the heavy.

Dangers: 11. Estroverto is threatening to win one and, again, if he handles the heavy he should be in the finish. Had good support at Newcastle last time and has been costly but is hard to leave out. 3. Reiby's Regent has run two very good races at this track since a spell and gives every indication a mile will suit. No idea on a wet track but if he handles it he'll be around the mark. 2. Costas ran a fair race first-up then ordinary behind Amangiri two weeks ago, the same race as Rexx. If he's a real swimmer he has some chance but on form can only have him a place hope.

How to play it: Rexx WIN ($2.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 – 2.30PM ROBERT OATLEY WINES PLATE (1300 METRES)

4. Killin is an interesting runner on debut for Kris Lees following two seconds in New Zealand. He’s looked good in two trials in the past month and both his race starts have been on soft tracks in NZ so he should be okay on heavy here. Keep very safe.

Dangers: 5. Krameric is unproven in the wet but has been good enough to place in Listed company over summer. Worked home well in his trial behind Faretti and if he handles the ground he should go close. 2. Dresden Green ran well on debut here then first past the post but lost on protest at Randwick to Stronger who has since run well in the Pago Pago last weekend. Blinkers go on and he should be okay in the wet. Must include. 8. Tacitus found the line nicely in an 804m trial and he’s going to love the 1300m on debut here. Have to take on trust that he’ll handle the ground but could surprise.

How to play it: Killin E/W ($4.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 – 3.05PM BRADLEY PHOTOGRAPHERS HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

I Am A Cool Kid to came out as expected. 11. Ariege is a good chance to back up an easy first-up win at Wyong. Her only wet track attempt was beaten two lengths on debut at Kembla and probably should have finished closer. Fitter and expect her to run well.

Dangers: 8. See The Show usually runs well on a wet track and comes off a freshen since a placing at Canterbury back in December. Sure to be thereabouts as usual. 9. Consider It Done is an interesting runner with no wet track form. But she was well supported first-up at Moonee Valley and didn’t get a clear shot at them at any stage. If she handles the conditions she’s a live chance. 10. Traumatised is a handy horse resuming and finished off his last prep with a couple of nice wins. Beat Gem Song in a Wyong trial leading in and if he handles the ground he can show up.

How to play it: Ariege E/W ($4.60 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 – 3.40PM RICHMOND CLUB HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

This would be the easiest assignment 2. Multaja has faced in a while and the only query on her is the wet track ability. Started $3.90 in a Group 3 at Moonee Valley first-up and finished close up. Clearly the horse to beat.

Dangers: 6. Jen Rules beat Mizzy on debut on a heavy track and aside from her last start failure at Sandown she hasn’t done a lot wrong. We know she’ll handle the ground and while she’s only had a quiet trial she should be competitive. 5. Unguarded might find the trip a bit slick but she’s a very handy filly and while she’s yet to place on heavy she hasn’t been beaten far at both attempts. Expect her to be running on strongly. 4. Invictus Salute is down in grade on her first-up effort behind Baller and has pleased at the trials since then. Jury’s out on a wet track but she’s good enough to bounce back to form.

How to play it: Muljata WIN ($2.10 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:15PM IRRESISTIBLE POOLS AND SPAS HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

Open race. 2. Level Eight certainly doesn’t win out of turn but what he does do well is handle a wet track. Showed he’d come back in good order chasing home the smart Classique Legend at Randwick on good ground. While he’s no good thing he should be in the finish somewhere.

Dangers: 1. The August was no match for Desert Lord second-up but he attacked the line strongly when resuming on a soft 7 at Canterbury in a good form race. Down a notch in class here and hard to beat. 10. Professor Marx is a very good wet tracker though he’s another that doesn’t win often. Has been racing well on good tracks of late so he’s well worth including in the chances. 7. Grimoire was runner-up at Canterbury in the same race as The August then a shade disappointing last time at Warwick Farm. Entitled to another chance on previous form. Keep 8. Obelos safe on his Australian debut. He trialled nicely enough and has some soft form overseas.

How to play it: Level Eight E/W ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 4:50PM EASY LANE HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

9. Amangiri is in the deep end a little coming off a maiden against her own age but she’s a promising filly and was dominant at Randwick at her second start running a slick 11.61 for her last 200m and 34.68 her last 600m Punter's Intelligence). Just has to handle the conditions but she’s being aimed at much better races so she is hard to go past. Read jockey Tommy Berry's comments here.

Dangers: 3. Be Mindful is starting to hit his straps with a couple of game wins at Newcastle and Kembla in the past month or so. Only struck a heavy track once but is in much better form now so give him the benefit of the doubt. 5. Stryke Rock finished strongly to down Mr Dependable at Kembla and while he’s another with patchy wet track form he’s never raced better and has to be included in the main chances. 1. Invicta is a heavy track winner and his last two runs have been his best in a while. Game behind a smart one in White Boots last time and he's not to be left out.

How to play it: Amangiri WIN ($1.95 TAB Fixed Odds).

Amangiri easily wins at Randwick on March 6

Race 8 - 5:25PM LANDER TOYOTA HANDICAP (2100 METRES)

5. Allcash has a poor strike rate but all his good form is on wet tracks so to be placed his past two on good ground says he’s racing very well. He’ll need things to go his way but he’s a good each-way chance in a race that is anyone’s.

Dangers: 4. Californiafirebird has been mixing form but his run on a soft track three starts ago was excellent and last time he was close up with Allcash at Randwick. Each-way claims again. 8. Makdanife was narrowly beaten two starts ago on a soft 7 then just battled away back onto a good at Randwick. Tends to race best in the wet so gets his chance to fire. 3. Wine Bush gets through a heavy track okay and is racing well. Snagged a win two starts back then made some ground out to 1800m. Extra trip no worries, he's been placed at 2700m.

How to play it: Allcash E/W ($7.00 TAB Fixed Odds).
