Handicappers' Comments - The Star Doncaster Mile Weights

Comments by the Racing NSW Handicapping Panel following the release of weights for the 156th running of the $3 million The Star Doncaster Mile on Saturday, 3rd April 2021.

A total of 151 nominations have been weighted for the 156th running of The Star Doncaster Mile (Group 1-1600m), to be staged on Day 1 of The Star Championships at Royal Randwick on Saturday, 3rd April 2021.

Heading the weights is six-time Group 1 winning mare Verry Elleegant (NZ) allocated topweight of 58.0kg on a 50.0kg minimum (49.0kg for three-year-olds).

Verry Elleegant (NZ) is a previous winner of the 2019 Group 1 Vinery Stud Stakes (2000m), the 2019 Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m), the 2020 Group 1 Tancred Stakes (2400m), the 2020 Group 1 Winx Stakes (1400m), the 2020 Group 1 Turnbull Stakes (2000m) and the 2020 Group 1 Caulfield Cup (2400m).

Next in line on 57.0kg are Fierce Impact (Jpn), a multiple Group 1 winner over the (1600m) distance, Kolding (NZ) a dual Group 1 winner over the Randwick Mile and in 2019 was the inaugural winner of the Golden Eagle (1500m) at Rosehill Gardens and Sir Dragonet (Ire) the current 2020 Cox Plate (2040m) Champion.

Russian Camelot (Ire) has been allocated 56.5kg. Russian Camelot (Ire) is a dual Group 1 winner of the 2020 SA Derby (2500m) and the 2020 Group 1 Underwood Stakes (1800m). Russian Camelot (Ire) also placed 3rd in the 2020 Group 1 Cox Plate (2040m).

Other high-rated mares are Probabeel (NZ) asked to carry 55.5kg. Probabeel (NZ) is a multiple Group 1 winner of the 2020 Group 1 Surround Stakes Stakes (1400m), the 2020 Group 1 Epsom Handicap (1600m) and the 2021 Group 1 Futurity Stakes (1400m).

Avantage with 54.5kg is a multiple Group 1 winner in New Zealand and Collette allocated 54.0kg is the previous winner of the Group 1 ATC Oaks (2400m), the 2020 Golden Eagle (1500m) and recently won the 2021 Group 2 Apollo Stakes (1400m).

Ole Kirk is the highest-rated three-year-old and will be asked to carry 53.5kg. Ole Kirk is the winner of the 2020 Group 1 Golden Rose (1400m) and the 2020 Group 1 Caulfield Guineas (1600m).

Heading the weights for the three-year-old fillies is Personal with 50.5kg, winner of the 2020 Group 1 VRC Oaks (2500m). Personal also placed in the 2020 Group 1 Thousand Guineas (1600m) and the 2020 Group 1 Blue Diamond Stakes (1200m).

The 2020 Group 2 Villiers Stakes (1600m) winner Greysful Glamour is exempt from ballot and will carry 51.0kg.   - Racing NSW Handicapping Panel
