Greg Ryan The Jockey To Follow At Dubbo Today

By Tony Megahey

The massive Greg Ryan following is again in high anticipation as the champion country rider has seven rides (his eighth, Dream Fling, was scratched) at this afternoon’s Dubbo TAB meeting.

Ryan typically is on the majority of favourites throughout Dubbo’s in depth programme that contains compelling city TAB Highway form and a strong local influence. Trebles are regular on Ryan’s record resume, and his selective mounts on a favourite track indicates another field day.

Ryan, 51, with recent doubles at Bathurst and Gunnedah, surpassed a phenomenal 3500 career wins.

He rides two strong contenders for rising Cameron Crockett who is a Highway winner, and prolific on the local circuit from his Mudgee stables. Crockett trained a treble at the recent Dubbo meeting, including this afternoon’s favourites The Frick and TAB Highway placegetter Artistic Beauty. Both will be short odds, and on target for upcoming city Highway Handicaps.

“They we’re dominant last start, logically hard to beat again and Highways the plan for sure,” Crockett offered. “Artistic Beauty has raced terrific in them before, and this mare is right back to her best after an eye injury. Her win was huge after a long lay off. “She went real close in a couple of hot Highways last prep, so deserves to be favourite.”

An opponent is Attainment who has also raced well in the Highway series.

“I’ve got a big opinion of The Frick,” Crockett adds. “He’s a really powerful unit, but nervy and highly strung. “He put it all together last start, he’s progressed and I’m convinced he’ll develop into an open company horse up here. And hopefully a Highway.”

“Ori On Fire is lightly raced and really promising, Greg Ryan has an opinion of him as well, after he rode him in a recent trial win and at Scone. “Last prep he ran a super race in the Wellington Country Championships qualifier, Distinctive Look and Galaxy Warrior ran one-two, so we’re really well placed this afternoon.”

Ryan has further prospects for the strong Clint Lundholm, Pat Farrell and Sally Torren’s stables.
