Brandenburg Coasts Home At Gosford

By Brad Gray

Brandenburg’s class shone through when taking out the first running of the $500,000 The Coast (1600m).

The recently gelded four-year-old had run inconspicuous lasts first and second up but he never saw daylight in either of those starts.

Regan Bayliss made sure the John Sargent-trained galloper had a clear passage this time and Brandenburg raced away with the new Central Coast feature.

Nudge and Brutality rushed home late to run second and third, with Punters Intelligence revealing that Brutality clocked the race quickest last 600m split of 34.91s.

However, only the last placed Charmmebaby covered more ground in the run than Brandenburg.

Bayliss only had the one ride at Gosford but made it count, landing the $287,000 prize for first place.

“He was in really good order, it has just taken him a couple of runs to come right, two luckless runs this campaign,” Bayliss told Sky Thoroughbred Central.

“Today the plan was to go forward from the widest barrier but there was too much speed for my liking going into that first bend so I came back, slotted in midfield and had a lovely run following Nimalle, got a cart up and he let down really nicely.

Earlier on the card, Enchanted Heart took out the Listed Debortoli Wines Takeover Ta4rget (1200m) for Kris Lees and Jason Collett before Polly Grey relished the soft conditions to win the Reward Group & Lux Properties Gosford Gold Cup (2100m) for Chris Waller and Tommy Berry.

Check out the results and replays for Gosford on Saturday.
