Autumn Features Begin To Take Shape This Saturday At Royal Randwick

Sydney will host its first Group 1 of the year on TAB Chipping Norton Stakes Day this Saturday, 3 March at Royal Randwick.

The feature, the Group 1 $600,000 TAB Chipping Norton Stakes, was classified the fifth highest Group 1 race in Australia in 2017, and again features Longines World’s Best Racehorse on Turf, Winx.

The superstar mare is the $1.06 TAB Fixed Odds favourite as she aims for her 23rd successive win and third straight TAB Chipping Norton Stakes.

Promotional staff will be distributing Winx flags to racegoers throughout both the general public areas and Members Reserve in the lead up to the mare’s race at 3.30pm.

Saturday’s nine-race meeting will help to shape the upcoming autumn feature events at the Longines Golden Slipper Carnival and The Championships.

Like the TAB Chipping Norton Stakes, runners in the Group 3 $150,000 Liverpool City Cup will be vying for ballot exemption in the Group 1 $3m The Star Doncaster Mile.

The juveniles will be on show in the Group 2 Schweppes Skyline Stakes and the Group 2 Chandon S Sweet Embrace Stakes for fillies.

Both races carry a $200,000 purse, but more importantly, the winner of each will be exempt from the ballot in the Group 1 $3.5m Longines Golden Slipper Stakes at Rosehill Gardens on Saturday, 24 March.

The Group 2 Guy Walter Proven Thoroughbreds Stakes brings together a fantastic group of mares and honours the late Guy Walter, who sadly passed away almost four years ago after a magnificent training career. Members of Guy’s family will be on course to present the winning connections with their trophy.

Market odds for the full nine race card are available via the TAB.

Tipped as the best value on course, racegoers can pre-purchase the popular Punters Pack for $39 at theATC.com.au

The Punters Pack includes racecourse entry, two standard drinks, a food pack, a racebook and access to the Punters Pack area within the Octagonal Bar.

The Royal Randwick track was rated a Soft 6 this morning and the rail will be at the +3 metre position.

The first race is at 12.25pm and last race at 5.30pm. Gates open at 11.00am (10.45am ATC Members).

Free car parking is available at the racecourse and buses will run between Eddy Avenue at Central Station and Royal Randwick racecourse.
