ATC Pays Tribute To Frontline Heroes & Racing Participants

Australian Turf Club pays tribute to NSW frontline health and emergency service workers and acknowledges key racing participants this Saturday as Royal Randwick hosts the final metropolitan meeting of the 2020/21 racing season.

Outside and around Royal Randwick the Australian Turf Club will display special digital messages of support and names a race in honour of frontline workers helping Sydney and NSW combat COVID.

Races are also named to thank trainers, stable staff and owners as amongst those who have kept racing operating through the pandemic and kept the industry afloat for the welfare of horses and the entertainment of millions of people across Australia who follow and enjoy the sport.

The recognition comes ahead of Saturday week’s meeting at Royal Randwick where the Australian Turf Club will host a Jockeys Celebration Day to acknowledge and thank the commitment and professionalism of riders in also keeping racing operating.

Australian Turf Club and Racing NSW continue to apply strict industry-leading COVID-Safe protocols at all metropolitan Sydney racecourses including participants’ separation, jockey bubbles and rapid onsite COVID testing.

Australian Turf Club Chief Executive Jamie Barkley, said Sydney racing had continued to lead the way in implementing and managing COVID-safe protocols.

“As the racing year closes and a new season prepares to begin, we thank the ongoing work of all those in our community and our racing participants,” Mr Barkley said.

“While we are unable to host racedays to spectators the Australian Turf Club has been able to continuously manage racedays safely for the enjoyment of so many people, especially in this current lockdown.

“The ATC thanks not only our frontline and emergency workers and racing participants but also all of our Members and customers for their ongoing patience and support.”

A total of 129 horses have accepted for a 10-race card at Royal Randwick on Saturday.
