ATC Celebrates Our Jockeys At Royal Randwick

Saturday's opening of the 2017/18 racing season will be held at Royal Randwick this Saturday with Jockey Celebration Day.

This day honours fallen jockeys and supports the work of the National Jockeys Trust who provide funds and other benefits for jockeys, apprentice jockeys and their families when faced with serious and fatal injuries.

To open the day, a blessing of the track by Reverend Colin Watts from the Australian Racing Christian Chaplaincy will be followed by a minute of silence.

Presentations to Chris Waller for winning the 2016/17 NSW Metropolitan Trainers' Premiership and Andrew Adkins for the 2016/17 NSW Metropolitan Apprentice Jockeys' Premiership will be made following race 3. Representatives from the Athol Mulley family will be in attendance to present Andrew Adkins his award.

On the track, the Group 2 $200,000 Missile Stakes heads the nine-race program. Kris Lees-trained Le Romain will return to the track for the first time since his second place in the Group 1 Schweppes All Aged Stakes on 15 April.

The five-year-old gelding has completed two barrier trials ahead of his return and has opened as the short priced $2.20 TAB Fixed Odds favourite.

Tycoon Tara ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds) for Snowden Racing will be looking for successive wins after a strong Group 1 victory in the Tattersalls Tiara at Doomben on 24 June. The Written Tycoon mare has been successful on three occasions over 1200m, two of those at Royal Randwick.

Similarly, Jungle Edge ($6.50 TAB Fixed Odds) has tasted success three times over the distance, however, has not had a win at Royal Randwick in his career.

Throughout August, the ATC is offering racegoers the chance to experience Membership, with access to the Members’ Reserve areas at both Royal Randwick and Rosehill Gardens. Patrons can redeem this offer by purchasing a ticket for only $60 per day at - Australian Turf Club
