Successive Wins On The Cards For Talented Wyong Filly

By Gary Harley

Locally-trained filly Joigny ($2.40 favourite on TAB fixed odds) is well placed to record back-to-back victories on her home track when she contests the Wyong Gold Cup 6 September Benchmark 64 Handicap (1600m) at Wyong on Tuesday.

The three-year-old has the record of two wins and four placings from seven starts and at Wyong she has started twice for a win and a second. On July 13 Joigny was a runaway three-length winner on this track and over this trip.

Grant Buckley trailed the leaders in third place before sprinting away in the straight. The filly should be in the box seat again from her soft draw.

RACE 1 (KOOINDAH WATERS STAY & PLAY 3YO MAIDEN, 1600m): Coffs Harbour 3yo Saintly Sunrise ($1.65 fav) put the writing on the wall when narrowly beaten at Newcastle last start. He was slowly away at Newcastle and ran on strongly in a better field than this. Crime Wave’s ($2.40) country form is good and he is a threat while Hillandale ($14) could fill a place.
SELECTIONS: 3 SAINTLY SUNRISE, 1 CRIME WAVE, 5 HILLANDALE

RACE 2 (CARLTON DRAUGHT MAIDEN PLATE, 1350m): Skillet ($1.35 fav) has been racing well in much better company and she should break through. The filly was placed in her only start on this track last month and she hasn’t been far away in two recent Newcastle starts. Skillet will be at short odds but this is her race. Avalaunche ($5.50) will appreciate the longer trip and Queen Zoffany ($10) has a place chance.
SELECTIONS: 5 SKILLET, 6 AVALAUNCHE, 4 QUEEN ZOFFANY

RACE 3 (JOIN WYONG RACE CLUB NOW JUST $55 2YO MAIDEN, 1000m): Coco Cuber ($3.80) is on debut after a four-length Randwick trial win on July 12. The Rubick colt shared the lead before racing away for an easy win. Pandemic ($3.10 fav) is also on debut and he was impressive in a recent Warwick Farm trial win in which he was not extended. Heart of The Oak ($4.20) also looked good in a Randwick trial win.
SELECTIONS: 1 COCO CUBER, 4 PANDEMIC, 9 HEART OF THE OAK

RACE 4 (TAB.COM.AU PROV & CTRY MAIDEN, 1200m): Icebath ($2.40 equal fav) was only beaten three lengths in the Group 2 Sweet Embrace in the autumn. She went to the paddock after failing on a heavy track in the Magic Night in March. She has trialled twice recently and wasn’t extended in a three-horse Hawkesbury trial win on July 15. Street Scream ($2.40 eq fav) is trialling well and has the rails barrier and Hasty Heart ($15) could fill a place.
SELECTIONS: 4 ICEBATH, 8 STREET SCREAM, 12 HASTY HEART

RACE 5 (NSW PARLIAMENT FORMER MEMBERS ASSOC. CLASS 2, 1000m): There are some promising fillies in this race. Hibiscus Lady ($3.10 fav) had a very good first prep. She won two on the trot at Gosford and Newcastle before a second at Newcastle before going to the paddock. The filly has won two recent trials and she has speed to burn. Hibiscus Lady will benefit from the 3kg claim. Miss Invincible ($3.70) is another fast filly with very good form last prep including an easy Warwick Farm win. Miss Powerbelle ($4.80) is a smart filly which was narrowly beaten first-up.
SELECTIONS: 3 HIBISCUS LADY, 1 MISS INVINCIBLE, 5 MISS POWERBELLE

RACE 6 (THE HONOURABLE JOHN BOOKS MEMORIAL CLASS 1, 1350m): If Mr Plow ($6.50) runs here he will be hard to beat. He was touted as a Queensland Derby contender after a Hawkesbury win and a close Newcastle placing in autumn. He led all the way in an easy Gosford trial win recently. Couru ($4.80) was run down late by Slow Burn in a recent Randwick trial. She is an on-pacer with a chance. Flash Palace ($2.80 fav) bolted in at Kembla last start and he has a 3kg claim.
SELECTIONS: 1 MR PLOW, 6 COURU, 2 FLASH PALACE

RACE 7 (WYONG GOLD CUP DAY 6 SEPTEMBER BENCHMARK 64, 1600m): Joigny ($2.40 fav) bolted in on this track last start and she is set for a repeat. She has had two starts on her home track for a win and a second and has a soft draw. Society ($6.50) came from near last to win at Newcastle in her only start a month ago. The filly will appreciate the 1600 metres. Sensacova ($9) likes this track and is a strong finisher.
SELECTIONS: 8 JOIGNY, 9 SOCIETY, 7 SENSACOVA

RACE 8 (MAGIC MILLIONS 2YO SALE OCTOBER 15-16 BENCHMARK 64, 1100m): Mosuo ($4.60) is a lightly-raced filly with two country wins from four starts. Her last start was in November when a close fourth on the Kensington track. She was never off the bit in a closing quiet trial at Warwick Farm three weeks ago. Shelley Beach Road ($6.50) has a good country record and is capable of winning with the claim and soft draw. Magnolia Power ($4.60 fav) is in good form and has a chance.
SELECTIONS: 13 MOSUO, 1 SHELLEY BEACH ROAD, 11 MAGNOLIA POWER
