Racing NSW is excited to announce a spectacular new chapter for one of Australia’s new age horse races. Beginning in 2025, The Golden Eagle — already a $10 million juggernaut on the world stage — will soar into its new home at Royal Randwick.
Since its inception, the Golden Eagle has captivated racing fans and punters alike. Its meteoric rise in prestige is underscored by a stunning statistic: eight of the top 12 finishers from the 2024 edition have gone on to conquer Group 1 races globally.

From Australia to Asia and Europe — the Golden Eagle is making a global mark.
As NSW’s second most-wagered race — behind only the Everest — the move to Royal Randwick ensures the Golden Eagle will shine even brighter within Australia’s Spring racing spectacle.
A New Spring Racing Powerhouse
This exciting venue change sets up an unprecedented four-week racing carnival at Royal Randwick:
• Saturday 18 October – TAB Everest Day
• Saturday 25 October – Spring Champion Stakes Day
• Saturday 1 November – Golden Eagle Day
• Tuesday 4 November – Big Dance Day
Adding to the thrill is Base Camp, Sydney’s newest entertainment precinct at Royal Randwick, set to redefine the raceday experience. Details of the ultra-modern ‘FOMO’ facility will be revealed soon — and trust us, you won’t want to miss out.
❤️ A Race That Gives Back
The Golden Eagle’s beloved charity component will proudly continue, with $1 million donated to charities, each runner partnering with a worthy cause. Racing fans can cheer not just for their horse — but for their favourite charity.
Race conditions, including the signature 1500m distance, remain unchanged.
“Sydney’s Everest Carnival continues to grow every year, with the highlight being a sold-out Royal Randwick for Everest Day last year,” said Racing NSW Chairman Saranne Cooke.
“The Golden Eagle race, especially with the $1 million charity component, forms a prominent position at the new Randwick Carnival.
“It will, like The Everest, become the young generation’s must-go event. Once again in 2025, the Golden Eagle is also again attracting world-class contenders, with a growing number of international stars — many of whom have already triumphed in prestigious Group races across Europe and Asia— now targeting the Randwick feature.”
