Royal Randwick Winners - Tips For Saturday 30th December

Tips by Brad Gray

Brad Gray's tips and insights for Royal Randwick on Saturday. There are winners to be found for nine races!

The rail is out 6m the entire with the track currently in the Good range but morning showers are forecast for Saturday.

Race 1 - 12:30PM NEW YEARS DAY AT ROYAL RANDWICK PLATE (1100 METRES)

Secret Lady is a sharp, professional filly which as seen her race well in her two outings to date. She was nabbed late by Dynamited, who looks a handy galloper, on debut. She then beat the hyped Plague Stone having dictated from in front. She’ll bounce out from the draw to put herself up on the bunny, settle and then boot for home. It’s a pattern that will see her win plenty more races. Ben Melham takes the ride for Gary Portelli, with the pair of course combining for She Will Reign’s Slipper journey. Has since trialled at Warwick Farm and went very nicely against older horses including noted good trialler Goldfinch.

Danger: Legislation is another runner here with not only exposed form but also a professional manner. He did everything right on debut to beat Fiesta, who raced without luck in the Gimcrack Stakes. The Snowden polish and cosy draw has him hard to beat. Of the debutants, thought Everard and Fearless Girl were worth consideration off good trials.

How to play it: Secret Lady WIN ($4.40 TAB Fixed Odds)

Race 2 - 1:05PM TAB HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

Sasso Corbaro showed good ability in her first campaign but just felt she needed to learn to put races away. Had the tendency to float a little once she found the front. She looks to have worked it all out now though. Her first up Hawkesbury win was outstanding. She put her rivals to the sword in a couple of strides clocking 10.70s for her 400 to 200 then came home in 11.07, according to Punters’ Intel. It was a blistering turn of acceleration. On the way this All Too Hard filly has come back, her superior turn of foot should see her get home in this too. Tipping she ends up a black type filly.

Danger: Epidemic just did enough last start at Rosehill after a dominant Randwick win the start prior over Seaway, who has won twice since. Think she is about to find her level but she’s found the right race to run well again in. Has been kept fresh, which has worked for her so far, with a tickover trial at Warwick Farm keeping the engine warm.

How to play it: Sasso Corbaro WIN ($2.40 TAB Fixed Odds)

Race 3 - 1:40PM BOOK SUMMER HOSPITALITY TODAY MILE (1600 METRES)

Dreamforce’s last start effort was really out of character on what he had produced the two runs prior. It’s been well documented that he had returned a gelding and his mind was certainly on the job with a very good second behind Redouble first up before he never gave his rivals a hope at Rosehill leading all the way. He started hard in the market at Randwick last time we saw him but faded out of it over the final stages. Josh Adams reported to the stewards that ‘the bit pulled through to the off-side.’ There’s a few minor adjustments to the gear this time, and happy to pen that run. Forgive a good horse one bad one as they say. It’s a lovely race for Dreamforce with no weight on his back. Confident he will bounce back.

Danger: New Universe isn’t quite the horse he promised to be early in his Australian career but he is running well enough to be competitive in these sorts of races. The way he is going about his work, the mile looks to suit now. Hunter Jack will get his chance controlling the speed outside of Dreamforce.

How to play it: Dreamforce WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds)

Race 4 - 2:15PM TAB.COM.AU HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Have always had a bit of time for Pendeloque and reckon you want to keep following her over the coming months. Only has a Kembla maiden win to her name to date but she’s run some very good races in her other three outings including a second to Viridine. Has trialled impressively on two occasions, the first behind Music Magnate while she split Dothraki and Endless Drama in her latest. You can always back Gerald Ryan’s horses first up with plenty of confidence. She’ll be ready to go. Hoping for a positive ride from James Innes Jnr, who knows the filly well, to use the weight advantage she has over a couple of her key rivals.

Danger: Kennedy is a pretty handy colt and he certainly deserves his crack at a Saturday race in town. Lost no admirers first up going down to the fitter Junglized while he won as expected at Kembla last time out, running good time for the day. Junglized pulled up sore last start so forgive him that.

How to play it: Pendeloque WIN ($4.80 TAB Fixed Odds)

Race 5 - 2:50PM #THERACES HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

Flow was carved to pieces at Rosehill the last time he raced and fought on bravely to be beaten less than a length at the finish. Punter’s Intel reveals a fast 10.96s sectional between the 1200-1000m which ultimately brought about his undoing. The three weeks between runs is perfect and don’t mind the drop back to 1200m for the son of Street Cry. Expecting Tye Angland to let him roll to the front from barrier 2 and take up the running, a role he seems best suited to off his previous form. Should get control of the race and be hard to run down with a couple of hard runs under his belt. Any rain only looks to enhance his chances.

Danger: I am an unabashed Brave Song fan but can’t come into him at $1.85. He looked in all sorts of trouble at Canterbury first up but no sooner were punters shaking their heads he found clear running and dashed to win quite comfortably in the end. He is a talent but want to see him do it again before taking odds on. $2.10+ and then we’re in business. Ghostly has trialled particularly well this time in. Keep him safe.

How to play it: Flow WIN ($3.60 TAB Fixed Odds)

Race 6 - 3:30PM TAB HIGHWAY HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

Remittance has mixed his form a little over his 10 start career but his best is clearly good enough for this. Plucking out a couple of highlights, he ran a 2L second to Clearly Innocent at Mudgee as his third ever start and has a 2L third to Bonny O’reilly at Scone also to his name. The Rod Northam-trained galloper went missing last preparation but went into that campaign after a year on the sidelines so putting it down to being ring rusty. He certainly showed he was back to somewhere near his best first up at winning in stylish fashion. It can be a punting trap reading too much into 900m form but happy to play at the odds on offer.

Danger: Terrified of Acquittal. Danny Williams has made no secret of how highly he rates this horse. Has more upside than any of these but does skip a few grades to be here. Would become only the second maiden to win a Highway – the first being Another Sin. All Stand was nabbed on the post by Victorem in a Highway two weeks ago which on face value seems outstanding form for this but the blanket finish scares me off. As does the 1100m. Still, he’ll give a sight from the front.

How to play it: Remittance WIN ($9 TAB Fixed Odds) and WIN Acquittal $3.50

Race 7 - 4:10PM CHRISTMAS CLASSIC (1200 METRES)

With the toppy Music Magnate. They haven’t missed him with 61kg but he is a Group One winner also with a couple of Group Twos on his CV. Hasn’t been sighted since May. Since then has had bone chips removed from both front legs so that issue coupled with wet tracks, we can forgive his latter two efforts in Queensland. Thought his trials this time in have been outstanding and there is confidence coming from the Bjorn Baker stable. Looks pretty screwed down to me. Blake Shinn will need to be on his game from barrier 10 but the wide draw allows him to roll across in his own time to be handy. Perhaps even lead. All going to plan he’ll defend his Expressway title.

Danger: Dothraki goes in for second. Not sure he is a genuine winning chance but he’ll run his usual honest race with improvement to come once he heads north for the Magic Millions carnival. Has since trialled well, as he tends to, and is drawn to get the run of the race. Boss Lane is the knockout. Has won nine from 41, and it’s worth noting that seven of those wins have been at Randwick.

How to play it: Music Magnate WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds)

Race 8 - 4:50PM HYLAND BOXING DAY SALE HANDICAP (1800 METRES)

Like what we saw from Zourkhan first up. He put the writing on the wall with a stylish trial win prior to that. That return at Randwick was a second to Sedanzer, who is airborne and should have won the Belle Of The Turf at Gosford on Thursday. Second up there still should be enough speed in this import’s legs to dash over the 1800m trip and he maps to get a very similar run to the one he got first up. He maps to settle with a couple in front of him, and without a great deal of speed engaged, peel out at the top of the straight to get his chance.

Danger: Gamblers Blues was a strong winner at Rosehill last start and he is holding his form at the moment for Tim Martin. Finds another suitable race and no reason to think he won’t be thereabouts again. Kris Lees' pair Bastia, who also accepted for Monday at Randwick, and High Opinion, have been scratched. Expecting a much improved run from Chatelard. The market does too though, finding him at $5.

How to play it: Zourkhan EACH WAY ($6 TAB Fixed Odds)

Race 9 - 5:30PM ATC OWNERS BENEFIT CARD SPRINT (1200 METRES)

Kawaikini is racing in great heart this time in. She was jagged back to last from the wide draw at Randwick last time out before being forced to go back to the fence, making late ground. She was the only runner in the race to break 34s for her last 600m according to Punters’ Intel. She can turn the tables on Anatola who she meets again here. She’ll be much close from the kind draw and there’s a 2.5kg swing. Mapped her to box seat behind Anatola with Reward For Fashion coming across from the wide draw. Two back Kawakini was beaten 2L by Pecans, the subsequent Belle Of The Turf winner, while her form prior to that was rock solid too. Thought he run last start might have been hidden enough to get double figures but we’ll have to settle with the $9.

Danger: Savitaino has done nothing wrong this time in. Her last start effort beating Calculated was the best of her career. She is clearly thriving in her work. Maps awkwardly but is going too well to dismiss off that alone. Anatola shoots up in the weights but she never gave her rivals a look in last start. Just monitor how the fence is playing. O’rachael made late ground on Anatola in that race and will strip fitter second up. Sugar Bella is in the mix somewhere too.

How to play it: Kawaikini EACH WAY ($9 TAB Fixed Odds)
