Neil Evans' Tips For Tamworth (Tuesday)

Neil Evans

Track Good 4/Soft 5 and rail out 3m from 1000m to 275m, then True; so on-pace early before late trend away from the fence

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Competitive maiden. Very keen to see ex-South Australian 3YO gelding 2. Euroglider back at the races! Hasn't started for more than seven months, but looked impressive in an easy and dominant four-horse trial win for leading Armidale stable.

Dangers: Local 4YO gelding 1. Crowd Surfer resumes over a shorter trip, and just needs to overcome the wide gate to be in the finish. Went down narrowly as an even money favourite on debut in a stronger maiden last spring, and has trialled strongly ahead of return. Inverell 4YO gelding 4. Swiglars has plenty of early speed, and should peak third-up from a good draw; while Muswellbrook mare 7. Kaera Jaani has knocked up running placings in differing company, but should be getting home hard again from off the speed for strong trainer/rider combination.

How to play it: Euroglider to win and quinella 1 and 2.

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Like the timing here fourth-up for Scone 3YO gelding 5. Snafu who has found the line okay all prep in deeper company, twice heavily specked at double figure odds.

Dangers: Keep well-bred 2YO Wyong filly 9. Exotic Pearl (Shamus Award x Explicit Vixen by General Nediym) safe on debut. Been taken along slowly at the trials and draws the fence for form stable. Local 3YO debutant 1. Hotel Charlie (Myboycharlie x Sky Love by Octagonal) has had three trials under a hold, and should be fit enough for first-up assault for leading trainer/rider duo. Expect improvement second-up from Muswellbrook 3YO gelding 4. Barry's Brother who was solid through the line resuming at Cessnock despite being unwanted in betting. Newcastle 2YO filly 10. Perfect was honest chasing a hot speed on debut in a stronger maiden at Taree after being heavily backed, and can expect to rebound, although likely to be ridden quieter drawn right off the track.

How to play it: Snafu to win and first four 1-5-9/1-4-5-9-10.

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

Tricky and open contest over the mile, but 3YO Newcastle gelding 4. Opinions looks well placed back in trip and down in class. Was fair to the line in a CL1 at Gosford before over-run at big odds by the smart Killer Instinct at Gosford. Draws to park right behind the speed.

Dangers: Don't dismiss local 5YO gelding 1. Cherokee because he hasn't run a place in 17 starts! Has finished off okay from well back in last few, and this looks a little weaker. Gets in nicely at the weights after rookie rider's 4kg claim. Muswellbrook 3YO gelding 8. Volcanic appreciated the drop in grade second-up finishing nicely from well back, but will be giving them a tidy start from a wide barrier. Local 4YO gelding 7. Stealthy who has been placed six times from 14 starts; and Wyong 3YO filly 9. All Charges who should improve third-up at this trip; are best of the rest.

How to play it: Opinions to win and first four 4-6/1-4-6-7-8-9.

Race 4 BM 66 HCP (2100m):

Looks ideal for improving Scone 5YO gelding 2. Mount Bulla back up to his best trip. Charged home to win a BM 81 this track and trip two runs back before finishing late again over the mile at Scone. Draws to settle back with plenty of cover and launch on the point of the turn.

Dangers: Local 5YO mare 6. Cut The Mustard finds it hard to win, but is hard fit and should position just off the speed from a nice gate. Wyong 8YO gelding 3. Bluesbro comes out of that same Scone race behind Lamma Hilton when sitting on speed before weakening late. Was a good mile winner two runs back, but small query at the longer trip; while honest Armidale 7YO gelding 4. Melted Moments will also appreciate getting to a more suitable distance after finishing hard in a deep BM 66.

How to play it: Mount Bulla to win.

Mount Bulla runs fifth at Scone on May 31

Race 5 BM 58 HCP (1200m):

Resuming 3YO Armidale filly 7. Heaven's High is smart fresh, and just needs an even share of luck from the wide barrier. Was very strong from the front winning a CL1 at Coffs Harbour two runs back, and finished strong to win a recent trial.

Dangers: Local 5YO mare 12. Cloud Cover has hit the line nicely in her last couple this grade, and draws the fence, with top country rider booked. Local 7YO gelding 3. He's Our Toy Boy gets into a nice race second-up after a good return at Armidale, and draws to get a soft trail. Big watch on resuming 4YO Newcastle mare 11. Off The Dial who was competitive around this grade late last year, and been given two quiet trials.

How to play it: Heaven's High each way and trifecta 7-12/3-7-11-12.

Race 6 BM 58 HCP (1400m):

Newcastle filly 4. Jazette is classy and has been quickly pushed up in trip after edged out as a heavily backed favourite at Cessnock. Has the speed to overcome the widest gate, and should be able to get enough rest mid-race to take care of these.

Dangers: Expect 7YO Scone gelding 8. Net Effect to work into the finish third-up. Has finished off okay from a mile back in two runs this prep, and there's little depth away from the top selection. Local 6YO gelding 5. Far North will get a lovely run on the paint behind the speed, and should be in the finish.

How to play it: Jazette to win.

Race 7 CL2 HCP (1000m):

Good sprint to finish. Smart Newcastle filly 2. Bubbles Ball exploded home resuming at Cessnock when heavily backed, and draws even better here to trail the speed and pounce early in the straight. Was only beaten a whisker second-up last prep as an odds-on fancy.

Dangers: Doubt there are any, but improving Newcastle filly 8. Without Conviction rallied late to upset Jazette third-up at Cessnock, and draws to be in the finish again. Lightly-raced 4YO Inverell gelding 7. First Wave resumes, with a nice fresh record, and will be thundering home late. Scone filly 3. Norske Code is way better than her last-start flop at home. Previously wasn't beaten far in a Hawkesbury Highway, and can bounce back; while Wyong 3YO filly 6. Havenot comes out of that same BM 66 at Scone when on the heels of the place-getters, and draws to get a soft run.

How to play it: Bubbles Ball to win and in order trifecta 2-8-7.
