Neil Evans' Tips For Moruya (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track expected Good 4 and rail true for Showcase Bateman's Bay Cup day

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1640m):

We start with a middle distance maiden at set weight, and two runners can fight this out. Progressive Randwick 3YO 12. Sidearm looks ideally suited getting to this trip fourth-up. Has found the line hard all three runs this prep, and draws to get a lovely smother back in the field.

Dangers: Improving 3YO 2. Namarari is a clear threat, also third-up and out in distance. Will roll forward from a wide gate, and give a huge sight with the blinkers off. Include in exotics 4YO's hard-fit 1. Icksta and 3. Persian Front who is third-up.

How to play it: Sidearm to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Sidearm runs third at Newcastle on September 18

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1020m):

Tricky sprint with several first starters on show. Canberra 3YO 5. Grand Lusitano made a strong home track debut fighting on for a long way from a wide draw, and carries 0.5kg less here.

Dangers: Well-bred Randwick filly 12. Wijdaan has been given plenty of time at the trials, and should be strong late. Liked the recent trial of Kembla filly and first starter 9. Grand Palazzo who will need to slot in from a wide draw, but has ability. Watch the betting on local mare 1. Intuitive who resumes off two quiet trials, with gear changes, and draws to get an economical run. Include 3YO debutant 3. Ahead Start who won a lead-up trial; while 10. Linden should lead from the inside barrier, and was only just collared late on debut here.

How to play it: Grand Lusitano to win and trifecta 5,9,12/3,5,9,10,12/3,5,9,10,12. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 CLASS 3 HCP (1020m):

Super keen here on consistent Kembla 6YO 1. El Magnificence fourth-up from a soft draw. Zipped away to win in record time here last start in what looked a deeper race, and can repeat the dose.

Dangers: Progressive Canberra filly 5. Delacour is the clear threat shooting for three straight wins in a tougher race. Will roll forward from a handy gate as well, and capable of running good time. Gap to the rest, although local 7YO 2. Laughing Or Crying resumes with no public trial, but normally finds his best early in the prep.

How to play it: El Magnificence to win and quinella 1 and 5. Odds and Evens: Odds a special

El Magnificence wins at Moruya on September 14

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Much more open battle here, with exposed form very ordinary. Like the value about 3YO filly 12. Aphrodotti who debuts off a nice trial for strong trainer/rider combination. Drawn off the track, but if she finds a spot early enough, has far more to offer than most of these.

Dangers: Stablemate filly 13. Kimberley Rain can improve sharply second-up in a thinner race. Must respect 4YO debutant 1. Six Atee Ate who has had three steady trials; while Kembla 3YO 8. Spectrometer can improve off a fair debut run at big odds.

How to play it: Aphrodotti each way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 F & M BM 58 HCP (1200m):

Goulburn mare 1. Talihina failed to run on resuming in a far tougher Highway at Randwick, and back in this grade over a more suitable trip, she can strike second-up despite the big weight.

Dangers: Lightly raced home track mare 2. Lady Tycoon has been placed in three of her last four around this grade, and should get a lovely trail just off the speed. Kembla mare 4. Show Tickets can also show good improvement second-up after knocking up late leading at Nowra; while Queanbeyan mare 5. Destiny's Dee Day ran on well resuming in a CL2, and is a second-up winner.

How to play it: Talihina to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 CLASS 2 HCP (1425m):

Good competitive race. Improving Kembla 4YO 1. Wild Chap was dominant from the front third-up at Wyong, and the third horse that day has since won well. Bred to get over further.

Dangers: Progressive Kembla 5YO 3. We're Off should have nearly won a BM 66 here, hitting the line after finding trouble, and should be right at his peak fourth-up. Local mare 8. Boom And Zoom is a consistent and honest performer, and well in at the weights, although prefers a softer track. Include in exotics 6YO 4. Auburn Boy who has been placed in his last three, and draws to get a soft run off the speed.

How to play it: Wild Chap to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BM 66 BATEMAN'S BAY CUP (1600m):

Now for the feature, and the stars can align for 5YO Nowra mare 7. All Tiara fifth-up this prep. All three career wins have come over this distance, and she's never missed a place at this track. Can settle midfield and finish over the top.

Dangers: Progressive mare 4. Petaluma is the obvious threat striving for a fourth straight win. Again will settle on the fence around midfield, although this is her toughest test so far. Local 5YO 5. Clergyman is building a solid record, and tuned up for this with a narrow BM 66 win here second-up. Kembla mare 10. Liveinthefastlane can peak third-up after finishing hard in the same race behind Clergyman; while Goulburn 5YO 11. Clever Missile took a big step last start sweeping home for an easy win at Canberra in slightly weaker grade.

How to play it: All Tiara to win and trifecta 4,7/4,5,7,10,11/4,5,7,10,11. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 C, G & E BM 58 Hcp (1200m):

The boys wrap up the card in an open contest. Keen on emerging Goulburn 4YO 4. Vibrant Knight who just like the top selection in Race 5 drops back from that hot Highway where he too was run off his feet first-up. Bolted in second-up last prep, and has bigger fish to fry than this.

Dangers: Lightly raced Randwick 4YO 2. Captain Solo will find this easier than his last start at Wyong, and the blinkers go on. Kembla 3YO 9. Noble Soldier charged home to win his maiden here first-up, and drawn to get a soft run on the inside.

How to play it: Vibrant Knight to win. Odds and Evens: Split
