Neil Evans' Tips For Gunnedah (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track rated Good 4 and rail true so normally on-pace early before trending wider

Race 1 C, G & E MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Competitive sprint for the boys to get us underway, and expecting enough improvement at second start from 5YO Mudgee gelding 1. Angry Rose who was completely run off his feet on debut from a wide barrier over the 800m scamper at Narromine when heavily backed. Up to a distance that he had previously won two trials over and drawn better, he can pay back punters here.

Dangers: Tamworth 3YO gelding 10. Nevercan was also well backed on debut at home over 1200m, showing speed before knocking up. Back in trip, and drawn the inside with senior country rider going on are all plusses. Scone 5YO gelding 7. More Than A Samba is fit now after three runs back, and will find this easier with the blinkers going on; while 4YO Gosford gelding 4. Geotime has had two plain runs to start his career, but watch for sharp improvement with the blinkers replacing winkers.

How to play it: Angry Rose to win and box exacta 1,7,10. Odds and Evens (First 2): Split.

Race 2 F & M MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Now the girls' edition, and very keen on 3YO Scone filly 9. Bit Of A Beauty who defied her big price on debut hitting the line nicely in a handy maiden at Muswellbrook after going back from a wide gate. Drawn better over a little extra ground, with the blinkers applied, and top country rider goes on.

Dangers: Big market watch on debutant 4YO Scone mare 4. Potts Point (Harbour Watch x Purse Strings by Secret Savings) who was never really let go in a lone three-horse trial on this track, but looked strong through the line. Walcha 4YO mare 7. Trip To London has shown gradual improvement this prep, and can work into the finish fifth run this prep.

How to play it: Bit Of A Beauty to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 3 OPEN HCP (2050m):

Good staying battle of tactics. Tamworth 5YO gelding 1. Bajan Gold took a long time to wind up in a BM 74 at home when a solid favourite, but that was his first run for six weeks since being transferred from a metropolitan stable. Just needs to find cover early under the big weight to be the one to beat.

Dangers: Rival Tamworth gelding 4. House Wins has won three of his last six, and comes out of that same race as Bajan Gold when one-paced to the line, but is capable of being in the finish on the limit weight. Armidale 7YO gelding 2. New Endeavour is crying out for this longer trip after finishing strongly in his last few up to the mile, and draws to get soft run on the fence; while stablemate 7YO 3. Rage Against was disappointing in that same BM 74 after travelling right behind the speed, but drops a touch in weight and gets senior rider aboard.

How to play it: Bajan Gold to win. Odds and Evens: Split.

Bajan Gold runs second at Tamworth on December 3

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Tamworth 4YO gelding 1. Hardyo hasn't been far away in better company across four runs to start his career, and is ready to break through. Was hard in the market two runs back at Scone when chasing home Autumn Rain who has since won two more in comfortable fashion before finishing on late in a deeper maiden same track. Drawn the inside which may be tricky on a much tighter track, but just needs clear galloping room from the 400m to be the one to beat.

Dangers: Tamworth 5YO gelding 10. Think Of Legend looks well placed second-up after doing his best work late at Quirindi resuming off a long break, and stable is smart at placing them early in the prep. Scone 4YO mare 11. Wickmo has found the line okay in three handy runs to start her career, and looks well treated down on the limit weight for strong trainer/rider combination, with the winkers going on. Muswellbrook 4YO mare 4. Chick In Charge has a lot more to offer than her one placing from 11 starts suggests. Was beaten under three lengths at Quirindi two runs back, and the third horse that day has since scored a dominant win at Scone. Hard fit and down in weight.

How to play it: Hardyo to win and box exacta 1,10,11. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 5 BM 58 HCP (1400m):

Tough and open contest. Tamworth 4YO gelding 1. Smooth Factor comes back in grade and up in trip after outclassed in a stronger BM 66 at Muswellbrook. Won two straight earlier in the prep, including a dominant Class 2 win at Scone, and draws to get a soft run, with top country jockey steering.

Dangers: Local 6YO gelding 3. Danspur finds it hard to win, but has never been far off them all prep in deeper races. Up sharply in weight, but drawn the inside. Muswellbrook 4YO gelding 6. Euroaire can mix his runs, but likes to get back and hit the line so extra journey here is handy; while 6YO Moree gelding 9. Happensnomore also likes to drift back and launch late, but rises in class.

How to play it: Smooth Factor each way and box trifecta 1,3,6,9. Odds and Evens: Odds.

Race 6 OPEN HCP (1300m):

Highlight race of the day, with plenty of chances, headed by lightly raced 4YO Tamworth gelding 2. Over And Above who hasn't won for a while, but has looked good finishing hard in his last two, including the strong form reference BM 81 Sprint at Coonabarabran. Draws to get a nice trail just off the speed.

Dangers: Local 5YO gelding 7. Redemption Road looks a threat from the soft draw after a solid closing run first-up in the Mudgee Sprint. Was competitive in high benchmark provincial and metro fields under big weights earlier in the year, and two of his three career wins have come second-up. Tamworth 8YO gelding and Wellington Cup winner 1. Goldstream resumes off two trials for strong country stable, and while generally performs fresh, has been saddled with a huge weight from a wide draw. Evergreen 9YO Inverell gelding 3. Free Billy stormed home to win the Coonabarabran Cup three runs back, and has held his form nicely since, but will find it tough drawn off the track. Tamworth 7YO gelding 5. Desert Marshal led all the way in an Open Hcp at Moree two runs back before stuck on okay to beat all but Valree at Narromine, and draws to find a nice on-speed position. Another Tamworth veteran gelding 4. De La Hoya is slowly getting back to his best after three improving runs this prep; while 4YO Moree gelding 9. Moree Dreaming has won both starts this prep, but this is much tougher.

How to play it: Over And Above to win; quinella 2 and 7; and first four 2,7/1,2,3,5,7/1,2,3,4,5,7,9/1,2,3,4,5,7,9. Odds and Evens: Split

Over And Above runs third at Quirindi on November 24

Race 7 CLASS 1 HCP (1000m):

High, wide and handsome again for this grade. Scone 5YO gelding 7. Starring has taken a while to show his potential, but can go on with it now at big odds after motoring home to win his maiden first-up at Dubbo.

Dangers: Progressive 3YO Newcastle gelding 2. Reveal The Magic returns for a second prep without a public trial, but didn't take long last time narrowly beaten on debut before bolting in second-up, and draws to get a soft run. Scone 4YO mare 4. Lucky Siren resumes without a public trial and is drawn right off the track, but normally comes to handy quickly. Scone 3YO filly 9. Magic Attitude scraped home to win on debut this track, and draws a nice trailing gate here, although obvious step up in grade; while 4YO Muswellbrook mare 11. Peggy's Time looks treated okay after charging late to win her maiden, although another one with a tricky wide draw to overcome.

How to play it: Starring each way and trifecta 2,7/2,4,7,9,11/2,4,7,9,11. Odds and Evens: Split.

Race 8 BM 66 HCP (1000m):

Good competitive sprint to finish, and consistent 5YO Tamworth mare 8. Fussdinado can bounce back. Won two straight at BM 58 level before didn't finish off stepping up to this grade, but draws better here coming back to more suitable trip, and has a good winning strike rate.

Dangers: Local 6YO gelding 5. Epic Decision was backed in from an each-way price when only missing by a long neck fourth-up this grade at Dubbo, and draws to get plenty of cover around midfield; while 5YO Tamworth gelding 2. The Real Boss has been okay through the line in generally deeper races this prep, although would need to improve carrying this weight.

How to play it: Fussdinado to win. Odds and Evens: Split.
