Track Good 4 and rail true
Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):
A big field of maiden sprinters get us underway. Loved the final furlong in a recent trial from 3YO Pluck filly and Scone debutant 13. Invitare who sat well back off the speed, but cruised home under a nice hold. In a leading country stable, and drawn to get a nice trail off the fence.
Dangers: Plenty of them headed by resuming Wyong filly 14. Superstasia who showed good cruising speed to win that same trial as the top selection, and has drawn an ideal gate. Watch the betting on resuming mare 4. Cheval Cat having her first run for new Scone stable, and has trialled okay; while Tamworth 4YO 1. Fields Of Red flew home to just miss at this track last time, but up sharply in weight.
How to play it: Invitare to win and quinella 13 and 14. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 2 OPEN HCP (1000m):
Plenty of pressure here for the older sprinters. Scone 6YO 1. Another Sin is three weeks between runs, but drops back in class, with the blinkers back on. Can hold a forward spot from the inside draw, and be too strong late despite a sharp rise in weight.
Dangers: Muswellbrook 6YO mare 4. Iamacrumpet draws to use her tactical speed, but the last 100m is the concern. Talented 5YO 3. Omar resumes for a new Newcastle stable, and was held together quietly in a nice trial. Mixed it in much tougher metro grade earlier in the year, and his best form is fresh.
How to play it: Another Sin to win and boxed trifecta 1,3,4. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1400m):
This looks the property of 4YO Newcastle mare 6. Poetry In Motion fourth-up from the inside draw. Hit the line hard missing by a whisker at Pt Macquarie, and right at her peak now.
Dangers: Wyong 4YO 1. Buckin' Rippa can improve third-up over a longer trip; while keep safe Scone mare 7. Sefire who resumes with significant gear changes. Hasn't publicly trialled, but took on deeper opposition in Qld last prep.
How to play it: Poetry In Motion to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Poetry In Motion runs second at Port Macquarie on September 27
Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1250m):
Tough and wide open race. Muswellbrook colt 4. The Jaguar can strike at only second start after boxing on okay from the front on debut in a better maiden than this.
Dangers: Lightly raced Scone 4YO 1. Ficsmm Dave resumes off a sound trial from a low draw. Showed steady progression in his first prep, and the form around him is more than handy. Was scratched from Coonamble on Sunday. Monitor any market move for Scone mare 5. Blue Velvet who debuts in blinkers off two quiet trials for a good fresh stable; as well as fellow Scone filly and first starter 11. Lapseki who kept her powder dry at the trials; while Wyong 4YO 2. Our Cousin Al can improve at his second start.
How to play it: The Jaguar to win and trifecta 1,4/1,2,4,5,11/1,2,4,5,11. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 5 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):
Up to the mile, and again there's a few chances. Improving Mudgee 5YO 5. Scottish Soldier can peak fourth-up, with the blinkers going on. Has found the line well from wide draws in his last couple at Dubbo, and can finish over the top.
Dangers: Tough Tamworth 4YO 1. Another Arli was dominant leading all the way at home two runs back before a decent effort in tougher Highway grade. Gets in well at the weights after rider's claim, and should give a big sight out in front on the smaller track. Newcastle 4YO 3. Political rises to the mile second-up, but will find this easier, and draws to get a cosy run right behind the speed. Muswellbrook 3YO 8. Babboy McCoy was a maiden winner two runs back, and screaming for the mile now after charging home last start.
How to play it: Scottish Soldier to win and trifecta 1,3,5/1,3,5/1,3,5,8. Odds and Evens: Odds
Race 6 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):
Same grade and trip, but far more quality and depth in this. Improving and under-rated Scone 4YO 4. Saint Ambrose came from an impossible position to finish off impressively at Tamworth. Can peak up to the mile with blinkers coming off, and senior jockey going on.
Dangers: Newcastle 4YO 2. Mbappe powered home in a handy BM 58 at Tamworth. Hard fit, and can be tucked away back in the field and saved for one last surge. Scone mare 8. I'm Going was terrific getting home first-up in a strong CL1 before getting little or no room back at home. Will drift back, but also love getting to this trip. Newcastle 5YO 5. The Premier can improve sharply after two ordinary runs back; while include in exotics big-finishing Gilgandra 6YO 3. Poster Man who needs the speed on.
How to play it: Saint Ambrose to win and box exacta 2,4,8. Odds and Evens: Evens
Race 7 CLASS 3 HCP (1250m):
Tamworth mare 1. Cassy's Sister has the speed to overcome a wide barrier. Will find this easier, will relish a drop in grade, and was preferred here to Sunday's Crystal Sprint at Coonamble.
Dangers: Local 6YO 6. Malzoom is hard fit and will sit right on the speed.
How to play it: Cassy's Sister to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Race 8 BM 58 HCP (1400m):
Wide open battle to finish. Progressive Scone 4YO 5. Rightful Heir has kept improving as the distances have crept up, bolting in his maiden at Armidale last start. Will roll forward again, and be tough to get past.
Dangers: Tough 9YO 4. He's Our Toy Boy will need to get over from a wide draw, but has won two of his last three in dominant fashion. Wyong 5YO 8. Heredero can mix his form, but extra ground suits after rattling home at Port last start; while Newcastle mare 11. Miss Scalini is best of the rest fourth-up with a 3kg claim.
How to play it: Rightful Heir to win. Odds and Evens: Split
Rightful Heir wins at Armidale on September 20
