Neil Evans' Tips For Goulburn (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4/Soft 5 and rail out 6m, so on-pace early before levelling out

Race 1 BM 66 HCP (1400m):

Tricky tactical battle to start. Rosehill 4YO mare 5. Our Fun resumes for a second prep in similar fashion to her debut in the autumn when she finished over the top at Kembla at this trip. Has had two quiet trials, and draws to get a soft run right behind the speed.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 1. Galahad's Quest is flying this prep winning all three, including back-to-back BM 58s this track. Came from midfield last start so extra little journey in tougher grade no problem, but potential lack of pace in the small field is a query; while local 6YO gelding 4. Vee Eight finished nicely in that latest race behind Galahad's Quest, and meets him 2kg better at the weights.

How to play it: Our Fun to win and quinella 1 and 5. Odds and Evens (First 2): Odds

Race 2 BM 66 HCP (2850m):

Another tactical battle for the stayers all getting to this distance for the first time, and most meeting each other again from a BM 58 race just under two weeks ago. But one from a different form-line, 6YO Kembla gelding 1. Misty Mountain Hop can strike at good odds third-up over this longer trip in what looks a drop in quality. Did his best work late in a BM 65 at Canberra, and the second horse that day has since won, and at Gosford in early winter came from a long way back to win over 2600m.

Dangers: Local 6YO mare 3. So It Is has been finding the line okay from well off the speed all prep, and crying out for this longer journey. Drops 4kg from a good closing effort in that BM 58 here, and draws the inside. Moruya 5YO gelding 4. Plucky George knocked over a hot favourite at Newcastle three runs back, and ran home okay in that same BM 58 last start. Out of the same race, stablemate to So It Is, 8YO gelding 2. Thunder Road is also yearning for a longer journey after working home from the back, and is down 5kg for this; while the winner that day at big odds, 5YO Hawkesbury gelding 5. Dexluther has been up for a while and hard fit, but meets the rest a lot worse at the weights.

How to play it: Misty Mountain Hop each way and quinella 1 and 3. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 CL1 HCP (1000m):

Competitive race. Well bred 3YO Warwick Farm gelding 7. Soami can take the next step at only his fourth start after resuming with a spectacular maiden win here charging home from the back. Second-up in the summer finished well down the track behind Group 1 winner Castelvecchio in the Listed Millennium.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 4YO mare 3. A Room Somewhere won with authority on debut at Nowra back in the autumn, but was spelled after just one more start. Has had two open class trials, and stable knows how to place them. Randwick 3YO colt 1. Aeecee Vinco resumes off a near 10 month break, but has trialled okay in open company, and 4kg claiming rider stays on for her return, with the blinkers going on. Local 5YO mare 6. Denesc has finished off okay from well back in all four runs this prep, including last start in a Class 3 when she was well backed. Needs the speed on up front, but looks well placed. Warwick Farm 4YO mare 2. Dizzy Miss Lizzy is struggling to break through for a second win, but has been freshened up via a handy open class trial; while watch the market on 4YO mare and former Victorian 9. Special Design who bolted in her maiden two runs back, and having her first start for new Hawkesbury stable.

How to play it: Soami each way and box trifecta 1,2,3,6. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 BM 58 HCP (1600m):

Thin looking heat of the Rising Star series augurs well for improving 7YO local gelding 6. Isadora Twinkle who stormed home to beat a handy BM 58 field in the heavy at Moruya last start, and third horse that day has since won. Competed in three straight Highways through winter.

Dangers: Rosehill 5YO gelding 1. Triple Choice can improve back in grade third-up, significantly with 4kg apprentice off-setting the big weight; while 4YO Moruya gelding 8. Train The Brave did some work to lead in that race won by Isadora Twinkle, but draws the fence here and should get an economical run.

How to play it: Isadora Twinkle to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Isadora Twinkle wins at Moruya on September 17

Race 5 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Tough race. Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 1. Haunting Spirit can break through third-up after improving to just miss under the same weight at Bathurst. Draws to get a lovely trail.

Dangers: Big watch on 3YO Rosehill colt 5. Zebrowski (Savabeel x Polish Princess by Polish Precedent) who debuts off two quiet trials for strong metro yard; while 4YO Warwick Farm mare 6. Cadence, and 3YO filly 11. Sky Diamonds are best of the rest.

How to play it: Haunting Spirit to win and quinella 1 and 5. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 6 BM 58 HCP (1200m):

Improving 4YO Warwick Farm mare 1. Mosuo has had four runs back this prep, and coming back in grade, is banging down the door to win again. Finished strongly against an on-pace bias at Wyong two runs back before a terrific effort charging home late in a BM 64 at Hawkesbury. In well at the weights after rider's 4kg claim, and the one to beat.

Dangers: Warwick Farm 3YO gelding 7. Capri Lane had to be ridden right out to win on debut at Orange, and draws a nice gate here, but this is tougher. Was scratched from Warwick Farm on Monday. Big market watch on local 4YO gelding 4. Verdi who won his maiden this track second-up back in late autumn when heavily backed, and has been give a quiet trial ahead of first run in nearly five months. Warwick 4YO mare 5. Unimpeded hasn't been away in her last five runs, and had no luck last start at Bathurst when caught wide without cover, but again has drawn off the track. If local 4YO mare 8. Glamour Cruise reproduces her best form from a couple of Highway runs, she'll be in the finish on a track that should suit.

How to play it: Mosuo to win and quinella 1 and 7. Odds and Evens: Split

Mosuo runs third at Hawkesbury on September 26

Race 7 MAIDEN PLATE (1200m):

Open affair, but really liked the latest trial from 3YO Rosehill filly and first starter 11. Danaat (Toronado x Anna Dana by Chester House) who travelled well in front, and then picked up big late when challenged, all under a good hold.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by Warwick Farm 4YO gelding 1. Big Bad Bruce has a big late motor, but finished off just fairly into a place resuming at Wyong when well backed. Better suited this distance and on much bigger track; while stablemate 3YO debutant Hawkesbury fillies 12. Ghalia's Dream (Smart Missile x Ghaliah by secret Savings) and Japanese-bred 13. Saki (Lord Kanaloa x Vamoose by Admire Moon) have both been given plenty of time at the trials, and have drawn well at bigger odds.

How to play it: Danaat to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 MAIDEN HCP (1600m):

Keen on 3YO Randwick gelding 10. Navy Cross who was very well backed resuming at Canberra, but no match for the winner who is smart and took on Group 1 company at Randwick on Saturday. Draws to get a lovely trail just off the fence.

Dangers: Improving 3YO Warwick Farm gelding 3. Vigoroso was well backed and just missed at Orange at only her second run, but has to overcome the extreme outside gate; while expect sharp improvement second-up from 4YO Randwick gelding 4. King Of The Realm getting to the mile, with the blinkers going on.

How to play it: Navy Cross to win and box exacta 3,4,10. Odds and Evens: Split
