Talented Young Riders The Ones To Follow At Muswellbrook

By Tony Megahey

Educated punters understand they’ll be the benefactors of the rivalry at Tuesday’s Muswellbrook TAB meeting between in-demand Reece Jones and Dylan Gibbons, with near full books and strong form.

They staged an enthralling contest for last season’s NSW apprentice’s premiership and the young talents have maintained super winning strike rates, in and out of town.

They ride numerous favourites for leading stables throughout a capacity nine-race TAB meeting.

Their success rate at the provincials has led to opportunities with elite stables.

Jones, after riding a “four-timer” at Royal Randwick early season is riding often enough for Waller, Godolphin and Baker, and won on the hot O’Shea prospect I Am Lethal at the Kensington Track on Saturday.

"I’m grateful for opportunities with the big stables, that colt was impressive, going to the Magic Millions I think - hard to beat in anything,” Reece offered before assessing his Muswellbrook rides.

“Tough day, big fields and unknowns, on exposed form, my best is probably late in All I Wish For (race 8 - $10 on TAB) and Miss Kingston (race 9 - $81).

“All I Wish For drew wide at Dubbo and won really well. Miss Kingston’s runs at Scone have been good when drawn wide, best form wet tracks but she’ll be fitter.

“I’ve got rides I don’t know much about. One for the Snowdens, Fausto (race 5 - $41), lightly raced, drawn wide but back in grade, you’ve got to respect the stable.”

The Snowdens don’t persevere with slow ones and rarely are at Muswellbrook.

Gibbons will be hard to beat on runners for his boss Kris Lees - Deelosh (race 3 - $2.90 favourite) and Fairey Barracuda (race 5 - $6.50) and in the seventh event, Trumpster ($3.40 fav), a last start Beaumont Track winner.

At present Muswellbrook is rated a Good 4 in fine weather.
