Wagga (Riverside) Tips For Monday - By Neil Evans

Selections by Neil Evans

The rail is in the TRUE position with the track rated a Heavy 8. There is little to no rain forecast with a sunny afternoon and a top of 18 degrees for raceday.

Monday 4th August – WAGGA (Riverside Course)

Race 1 - 1:10PM PICNICS RACEDAY OCTOBER 4 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1675M)

2. PRIDE OF JEZZA ($2.80 on TAB) is a locally-trained and improving four-year-old who can make it two straight after finally breaking through on the course proper here. Revelled in similar conditions that day coming from well off speed and has been given four weeks between runs. 5. Flutterby ($2.25 favourite) is a Victorian mare who hasn’t finished further back than second in her last five. Swept home to win on soft ground two starts ago before ridden quieter and charging late behind a dominant winner at Albury 17 days ago. 6. Bomerton ($9.50) has been running home okay behind the placegetters all prep and gets weight relief here with a new jockey aboard. 1. Mishima ($7) was beaten a long way at Kilmore last start but fit enough, and did win his maiden win on heavy ground at Wodonga two starts ago when backed from $4.20 into $2.80. Extra trip and a 3kg claimer staying aboard are plusses. Gap to the rest.

How to play it: Pride Of Jezza to win

Race 2 - 1:45PM AGGIES RACEDAY SEPT 20 TICKETS NOW ON SALE MAIDEN (1000M)

6. IMPENDING IMPRINT ($3.70), by Impending out of a Hinchinbrook mare, makes her debut in suitable conditions for the leading Donna Scott stable at Albury. Won the second of two trials when sailing down the middle from last, leading country jockey is on and she’s drawn to get the right cover early. Big watch on 8. Melodee Rose ($2.60), a Victorian mare by Denman, who debuts for the Craig Weeding stable of a domiannt soft track trial win. 5. Belnera ($2.50 fav) is in the mix despite a wide draw after leading for a long way here first-up behind a very handy winner, and bred to thrive in rain-affected going. 3. Quick Spell ($15) has shown steady improvement in four runs this prep. Blinkers come off, but has to overcome a tricky draw and a jump in weight. 11. Wild Annie ($13) well into the campaign can both figure in the minor money.

Race 3 - 2:25PM JRC ELECTRICAL SERVICES COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HCP (1065M)

1. FORTE CHEVAL ($4.80), a first starter by Strasbourg from the same yard as the previous on top selection, looms as the one to beat in a weakened race. Has had two trials, the latest sitting wide and matching it with unbeaten Cambar before wilting late. 5. Rita Red ($4) has been in the money in two runs back from a lengthy break and in-form jockey sticks solid. Big watch on home tracker 7. Party Boss ($2.40 fav) resuming with no official trials, but did make the Group 3-Black Opal field as a two-year-old, while 4. Vinari ($5) improves at her second start on a bigger track.

How to play it: Forte Cheval to win

Race 4 - 3:05PM VALE GARRY TOWZELL MTC LIFE MEMBER BM 58 HANDICAP (1065M)

1. ANTISOCIAL ($3.50) is a capable Victorian mare who can bounce back third-up in suitable ground and take her winning strike rate to near 25%. Charged home to win on the course proper here for a dominant win on a bog track before having a torrid and wide run in deeper grade at Corowa. Drawn to get cover and has won two from three in heavy going. 2. Getty ($5) boxed on okay from a low draw first-up in a handy Class 3. Less depth here and handles the going. 3. Magic Leprechaun ($2.60 fav) pulled off a nice betting move when resuming in heavy ground at Albury charging home from last in a Class 1. This isn’t much tougher and he’s lightly raced for a six-year-old. Be surprised if the winner comes outside those three, but 6. King Charles ($10) back sharply in trip and dropping in grade and 9. Winehouse ($16), fourth-up with blinkers added and trained on the track, adds value into trifecta and first four plays.

How to play it: Antisocial to win

Race 5 - 3:40 NSW JOCKEYS ASSOCIATION CTRY BOOSTED CLASS 1 HCP (1065M)

7. TI TREE ROYAL ($9) is a talented albeit wayward four-year-old reloading off a seven-week break in another open race for a leading Albury yard. Doesn’t always switch on but was strong through the line in winning a soft track trial and his best form is fresh. 8. Witch Of November ($3.50 fav) is an improving home track mare well placed deep into the campaign. Hasn’t missed a place in her last three, gets a sharp drop in weight and concussion plates coming off are a positive gear change. 2. Hard Too Impress ($4.80) is one of two runners from the Brett Thompson stable at Gulgong. Disappointed third-up in similar conditions at Wellington but will be better off on a bigger track and has to be respected travelling this far south. Stablemate 4. Proofreader ($13) also started with a win at Coonabarabran in soft going at double-figure odds. 5. A Million Roses ($10) resuming off a long break and 9. Magnolia Star ($7) dropping significantly in weight fourth-up are both capable of running into the money, along with 10. Media Coverage ($15) who is hard fit.

Race 6 - 4:15PM JOCKEYS CELEBRATION DAY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200M)

9. PEARL TROUT ($8.50) is a lightly raced local mare who can pounce fresh at good odds off a lengthy break. Was progressive enough up to Class 1 level last prep, given plenty of time since trialling in March and gets in well at the weights after the claim with several gear changes a further pointer. 2. Salute Again ($5 equal fav) is trained on the course, and off a let-up, will relish a drop in class after two handy closing efforts in Saturday Highway company. 1. Hells Son ($8.50) is fit and honest and better served over a furlong further with blinkers coming off. 3. Deepwater Artist ($5 eq fav) snuck under the market radar when storming home to win on debut at Albury, but drawn wide here in a deeper assignment. 4. Taluk ($7.50) can run into the money fourth-up while expecting sharp third-up improvement from 5. Thoughtful ($6.50), despite drawing the outside, four weeks between runs with blinkers off. 6. Connemara Queen ($21) loves these conditions and is the best of the rest second-up.

How to play it: Pearl Trout each-way

Race 7 - 4:50PM CAN ASSIST FAMILY RACEDAY OCTOBER 18 BM 58 HCP (1800M)

2. FIRST DAY ($2.70 fav) is a tough Victorian mare dropping back from far tougher metropolitan Saturday company over the border and bolted in a deeper BM 66 on the course proper here from well off speed three starts back. 11. Crazy Atom ($11) is another each-way chance fourth-up in suitable ground. 1. Philadelphia Storm ($13) gets a timely drop in grade and two of his four career wins have come in heavy going, while 13. Newyork Missile ($5) trained on the track heads the rest.
