Local trainer Glen Milligan believes he’s found the right race for Wing Nut to win at the Taree meeting on Tuesday - as long as the horse puts his mind on the job.
“I think he’s one of those horses that if he runs past the others he wants to then pull up and wait for them,” Milligan said.
“Teighan (Worsnop) couldn’t have ridden him any better at his last start, at Port Macquarie.

"He had the run of the race and put his head in front halfway down the straight, but ended up finishing fourth.
“Teighan might have to time her run very late to suit him this time around, so that if he hits the lead it’s in the last little bit.”
Wing Nut will contest the last race on the five-race, non-TAB card - the Midge Flyscreens Benchmark 50 Handicap over 1600m.
“It’s an ordinary field and he’s probably the best of them,” Milligan said.
“He’ll look the winner at some stage, but he’s got to put his mind on the job if he wants to finish off and win.
“He showed what he can do when he won a $50,000 Super Maiden at Port Macquarie in January, but he’s had plenty of chances to win other races and that’s still his only victory.
“He’s there to try and get a kill in the lower grade at Taree on Tuesday and hopefully that’s enough for him to get the job done.”
Wing Nut has had 18 starts for that one win along with one second and six thirds. He’s usually thereabouts and has had five fourths and one fifth as well and has pulled together almost $53,000 in prizemoney.
It’s a field full of horses that are battlers and that includes the clear topweight Warrant, a five-year-old gelding that is now on to his fifth trainer in Taree-based Alicia Willick-McDonald.
Warrant has had 17 starts for two wins, four seconds and one third and hasn’t won since taking out a Benchmark 58 event over 1600m at Sunshine Coast in November of last year.
This will be his second start for Willick-McDonald and she has engaged apprentice Leanne Boyd to ride him and bring the weight he will carry down from 67kg to 64kg.
Wing Nut is Milligan’s only runner at the meeting and will carry 60.5kg. Worsnop has one other ride, on first-starter Precision Time for Taree trainer Tony Ball in the first race, the Sky International Maiden Plate over 1000m.
