Sapphire Coast Winners - Tips For Sunday 27th July

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Sapphire Coast meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 12:49PM EDEN TYREPOWER COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

3. Your Magic tried hard when resuming on the synthetic at Canberra, giving the winner 2.5kg, when runner-up and is likely to be improved for it. Did fail here on debut but given plenty of time and has struck a winnable race. Go well.

Dangers: 8. Smolenski is a big watch at his first start after a very handy trial in behind a handy bunch of horses at Goulburn. Any support would be significant. 1. Kneel Down hasn’t been the same horse since just failing on debut at Nowra. Back to 1000m and blinkers on he has the chance to bounce back. 4. Lerinka ran a nice enough race second-up to suggest she could be on the up this time in and did place over this course at her only attempt.

How to play it: Your Magic WIN.

Race 2 - 1:29PM SOUTH COAST FISH PROCESSORS BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Sir Franklin is showing plenty of promise and after four seconds on end was far too strong at his second run back scoring easily at Moruya. Yet to race beyond the 1010m trip so has to tick that box but should be left with no excuses from barrier one.

Dangers: 7. Winnie Fortune ran her best race this time in when runner-up over this distance at Moruya two weeks ago. Placed in three of four runs at this track and can be expected to be competitive. 2. Deni Gal is on the back up after scoring at Moruya last Monday and she was quite impressive coming from well off the speed to score. No harder here and is one of the chances. 3. Drama Dodger has disappointed in two runs since finishing second at this track on June 8. Back a notch in class so entitled to another chance.

How to play it: Sir Franklin WIN.

Race 3 - 2:09PM ARV CARAVANS CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Write Your Own has his first start for Matthew Dale and looks set to be competitive first-up on the back of quite a nice trial performance at Goulburn earlier in the month. Draws low and if the trip isn’t too sharp he should be in the finish.

Dangers: 4. Graceful Ellen had a tough run and tried hard when finding one better at Narrandera two weeks ago. Has run well here on two occasions previously and has to be respected. 2. Alottosay is chasing a hat-trick after wins either side of a break. Sprouted wings to run over the top of them from well back at Moruya first-up. Hard to leave out. 6. Grunade scored first-up at this track before a sound third behind Alottosay last time. Has the inside gate and will have every chance.

How to play it: Write Your Own WIN.

Race 4 - 2:49PM EDEN SPORT & REC CLUB CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

3. Walk The Pier appreciated a class drop to score a dominant on pace win at Moruya third-up in first run for new stable. Disappointed at this trip prior to that but with the confidence up and staying in country grade he should be hard to beat.

Dangers: 8. Playful Puzzle ran well here first-up before winning at Queanbeyan and far from disgraced at this sort of trip last time out at Moruya. Lightly raced and is a competitive chance. 1. Airliner has only won once in 24 starts but is regularly finding himself right behind the placings. Down another notch in class and no surprise if he lands in the placings. 4. Zouwase has been disappointing in two runs back from a spell and returns to the track and trip of his maiden win back in February. Blinkers go on back on and chance to step up.

How to play it: Walk The Pier WIN.

Race 5 - 3:29PM GREAT SOUTHERN INN MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

11. Sablonneuse held his ground on debut at 1200m when a slight drifter in betting and was only just nabbed for third in the last few strides. Fitter for that and no surprise if he improves with the run and increase in distance.

Dangers: 6. London Star was aided by a great inside run when coming from well back to chase Walk The Pier home at Moruya two weeks ago. May be able to settle closer from an inside gate this time and has to be included in the chances. 12. Invincible Tycoon made her debut on the synthetic at Canberra so that could be inconclusive. Finds a nicer draw this time and in an open race has the chance to show something. 4. Closethedoordarcy sat handy and weakened at Wagga on a heavy 10 last time and has failed on the heavy previously so worth forgiving. Best runs have been at Queanbeyan but chance to show up here.

How to play it: Sablonneuse WIN.

Race 6 - 4:09PM SOUTH COAST TIMBER EDEN CUP BM66 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

8. Taytay Bay ran on without threatening at Canberra on the synthetic when up 1750m but better placed back on the grass and this trip, at which he was a winner at Nowra two back. Drawn to get a nice run and chance to bounce back.

Dangers: 2. Epaullo Creed rarely runs a bad race and might be closing on another win after placings at Moruya and Goulburn at his past two. Can push forward from the wide gate and give himself every chance. 1. Almost Persuaded has been freshened up since running third at Queanbeyan on May 11. That followed a win at the same track in a Benchmark 58. Tends to take a run or two but has an each-way show. 3. Capital Heart disappointed at Moruya last start but gave a good sight at the same track before that. Has won at this track, draws favourably and is in the mix.

How to play it: Taytay Bay EACH-WAY.

Taytay Bay wins at Nowra on June 17

Race 7 - 4:45PM COACHMAN'S MOTEL EDEN SUPER MAIDEN (1200 METRES)

4. The Main Event caught the eye when resuming from eight months with a flashing second over 1010m at Moruya. Drew wide there and went back, kinder draw this time so expect he’ll be closer up in distance and looks to have found a nice race to break through.

Dangers: 11. Entrapment is a big watch on debut having run a nice second in a Rosehill trial recently behind a Group class filly. Nicely drawn and watch for any support for her. 2. Texan Star made a handy debut at Moruya when running on for third in the same race as The Main Event. Drawn wider this time but worth including in the chances. 1. Brooklyn Lights debuted on the Kensington track back in March and led before running fifth. Trialled twice this month and worth keeping an eye on.

How to play it: The Main Event WIN.
