Parkes Winners - Tips For Sunday 16th May

By Brad Gray

Tips and race by race preview by Brad Gray for Parkes.

Race 1 - 12:10PM PARKES FARM CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE (1400 METRES)

12. Sojo didn’t get much room in the straight on debut at Canberra. She didn’t savage the line when she finally saw daylight but she did enough to side with her in this winnable maiden. Gets out to 1400m second up and trialled well prior to her first start.

Dangers: 7. Zurbaran produced his career best last start at Coonabarabran and if he holds that form that’ll see him in the money again. 5. Quan finished midfield at Tamworth last start but was jumping 1100m out to 1400m.

How to play it: Sojo WIN ($2.60 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 2 - 12:45PM CHOICES FLOORING CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

2. Toulon Factor was touched off by handy three-year-old Casino Kid last start at Gunnedah but like how he kept driving to the line late despite being only second up jumping 1200m to the mile. Should be at his top now third up and lean his way in what looks a two horse race.

Dangers: 3. Choosday Nights has won two of her past four and what stands out from her last start victory at Narromine was the six length gap back to third, after she paired off with Wishfully. The runner up has since franked the form winning herself at Wellington.

How to play it: Toulon Factor WIN WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 3 - 1:25PM COACHMAN HOTEL PUNTERS CLUB MAIDEN HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Maternal Gift was confidently backed at Bathurst first up to start odds on and her manners cost her, wanting to duck out in the straight. Her form prior to that was all at provincial level. Well placed in this to atone for last time out.

Dangers: 13. Enchanted Princess also has race experience on her side. Has been around the mark in all three runs for Danny Williams and like her back to 1000m. 6. Joeycee wasn’t knocked around in her one trial and could show up on debut.

How to play it: Maternal Gift WIN ($1.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 4 - 2:05PM HANKOOK TYRES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Zarsnip beat Nuremburg Castle and Fat Gecko fresh over 1000m two preparations ago. Forget his failure first up last campaign as he never got clear. The runners towards the top of this field look to have a big class edge on most of this field.

Dangers: 2. Revolver sets up well here, although he can be hit and miss. 8. Jarmanagic has never raced better and like him back to 1000m given his record over the trip reads 6:1-2-1. Open race.

How to play it: Zarsnip EACH WAY ($13 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 5 - 2:41PM BOB SKINNER PAINTING & DECORATING CLASS 2 PLATE (1200 METRES)

Liked the last start win of 5. A Fortunate Lass at Gunnedah and she’s well placed to go back-to-back now. All four of her runs since being transferred to Mark Schmetzer have been better than they read on paper. Maps well in this race.

Dangers: 2. Boom Boom Basil held his own in Highway Handicap company last start at just his fourth race start. Drops back in grade. 11. The Drover is a talent but he is still working everything out. Once he wins again, look for him to charge through the grades.

How to play it: A Fortunate Lass WIN ($3.90 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 6 - 3:20PM WHITNEY WELDING & BOBCAT HIRE SATELLITE HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. Kookabaa didn’t look comfortable on a heavy track at Canterbury last start but respect that he started $4.80 in a midweeker only two weeks ago. Maps well, will appreciate firmer footing and the timing is right to go out to 1200m again.

Dangers: 5. Forever Newyork and 11. Patrick May are both in good enough form to give this a shake and are deservedly at the pointy end of betting. 9. Worldly Pleasure hasn’t fired a shot for a while but she profiles as the best roughie.

How to play it: Kookabaa WIN ($7.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: SPLIT

Race 7 - 3:59PM PARKES SERVICES CLUB PARKES CUP (1600 METRES)

1. Hit The Target is by far the highest rated runner in the race and although he lumps 62kg because of it, he doesn’t look too badly treated with the 55kg minimum. Won well first up at Newcastle before pulling up with cardiac arrhythmia at Tamworth so forget that.

Dangers: 3. Amy’s Shadow has raced like she’s been desperate for the mile all preparation and she finally gets it. The only knock is the price. 2. Pecuniary Interest’s first up run was much better than it reads on paper as he didn’t get much room late.

How to play it: Hit The Target WIN ($7.50 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS

Race 8 - 4:40PM TELESCOPE TYRES & BATTERIES BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

5. Kirkton jumps from a Sapphire Coast maiden win into a BM58 but liked the style of that first up win. Has returned a better horse and still has upside given that was just his sixth start. Maps to get a similar run in this and will be strong late.

Dangers: 3. Forged In Stone can be rocks or diamonds but his best would definitely give this a shake. 2. Delivered ran well over the Wagga carnival while it’s a similar case for 10. Sly Song. Both are hard fit and racing well.

How to play it: Kirkton WIN ($7 TAB Fixed Odds) Odds & Evens: ODDS
