Neil Evans' Tips For Wagga (Monday)

By Neil Evans

Track Good 4 and rail out 9m from 1400m to WP and True the remainder:

Race 1 - 1:15PM SPECSAVERS WAGGA WAGGA MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES)

3. Majestic Deel is a progressive enough four-year-old who has twice attacked the line into a place this prep. Best weighted runner in the race after the jockey’s 4kg claim, and he will relish the extra furlong. Ready to break through. 7. Super Jules has been up for a long time, but continues to run home in and around the money. Another one looking for the mile now. 8. Tornado Anwa is trained on the track, and drawn to find a nice trail fourth-up. 5. Shooting Firm is an honest mare and over the odds in a moderate race. 2. Jappalouis draws inside and can run into the minor money fourth-up; while 6. Super Groovey is the best of the rest.

How to play it: Majestic Deel to win

Race 2 - 1:50PM WAGGA WAGGA EARLY YEARS LEARNING CENTRE MAIDEN PLATE (1200M)

7. The Eyes Have It is an improving Canberra mare primed to break through third-up coming back 100m in trip. Did her best work late when resuming in a handy maiden at home before settling closer and beaten under a length by a promising one just 10 days ago. Can roll across from a wide gate, and be right in the firing line. Has placed six times so far from nine starts. 2. Sonic Scene is a lightly raced home tracker coming off a seven week freshen-up after hitting the line third-up. Gap to the rest headed by 1. Haz Styles, an ex-Qld four-year-old having his first run for the new Riverina stable; and 9. Rum Jungle improving into his fourth start; while 10. Smugglers Spot is a market watch on debut for the Victorian yard of Craig Weeding.

How to play it: The Eyes Have It to win

Race 3 - 2:25PM 2026 FACE OF THE CARNIVAL SEARCH NOW OPEN MAIDEN (1400M)

5. Brutal Belle is the most progressive runner in the race, and can give Canberra trainer Luke Pepper a race-to-race double. Has run home hard to beat all bar the winner in his last three, twice from well off speed and the latest settling closer at Moruya after being backed from $2.05 into $1.95. Better suited on this bigger circuit and being ridden quieter, she only needs a clear crack at them from the 400m. 1. Doubtfree is very fit and banging on the door after placing in his last three up to this distance. 4. Azzucca gets more ground deep into the prep. 7. Hot Toddy and 11. Strategic Defense are both third-up improvers.

How to play it: Brutal Belle to win

Race 4 - 3:05PM POOLWERX WAGGA CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

4. Screen Spirit is an emerging and locally trained three-year-old reloading for just his third start nine days after an all-the-way win on the Riverside track. Drawn to get a soft run on speed carrying 1kg less, and still has plenty of scope and improvement on his side. 1. Son Of Eureka returned for a second full prep with a bang, bolting in from the front at Goulburn in heavy going, but under the odds from the outside draw here back on top of the ground. 2. Dita Von is knocking on the door for another win after charging home to miss narrowly at Corowa a fortnight ago. 3. Sunroe is a betting watch on a nine day back-up, dropping significantly in distance, with blinkers going on. Gap to the rest headed by 6. Cinephile improving third-up.

Race 5 - 3:40PM WAGGA WORKWEAR BM58 - HEAT OF WAGGA STAYERS SERIES (1800M)

3. Boy From Tennessee can make it two straight wins, and finally start to live up to his early potential. Worked home nicely in a deeper race when coming off a month-long break before ridden very quiet and sweeping home to claim a BM 58 at Gundagai over this same trip. Even better suited on a bigger track, and can again be ridden cold before taken to the middle at the top of the straight. 2. Divine Conclusion is trained here, and shooting for three straight wins after a dominant front-running display in the Aggies Cup on the Riverside track. 4. Mr Tadashi worked home okay into a place behind the former when having his first outing here since arriving from Victoria. 5. More Cash is a Victorian raider who bolted in a weak race on this side of the border last start; while 6. Soul Taker drops in grade deep into the campaign.

How to play it: Boy From Tennessee to win

Race 6 - 4:15PM UNION CLUB HOTEL CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

1. Jackpot Star is a fit and still improving four-year-old with his share of ability, and is the one to beat staying over the same journey and class. Gave nothing else a chance from the front in weaker company two starts back before being collared late on the Riverside track as a short-priced favourite, but the jockey reported to stewards the gelding had over-raced and pulled. Drawn to get the right run and never been out of the money in six starts. 7. Paparazzo is a lightly raced Victorian resuming off a 17 week spell and quiet trial, and has a smart record when fresh. 2. Menzah One is a big market watch resuming off a six month spell for the new local stable after tackling Listed company in Adelaide early autumn. 6. Winning Witness fourth-up heads the rest.

How to play it: Jackpot Star to win

Race 7 - 4:55PM RAINE & HORNE BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

8. Off The Press is a sparingly raced Canberra 5YO returning for his first outing since a fair effort in deeper Highway class early June. That fresh run came off two winning trials, and earlier in the year he finished right behind the placeghetters in consecutive CL3 Highways both run on firm going. No public trials, but comes to hand smartly, and get his preferred good going from the inside draw. 6. Ditterich won a similar race at Albury two starts back, and is in the hunt again from a soft trailing draw coming back from tougher Highway company. 11. Light Foot is a lightly raced and talented mare now in the local Danny Beasley yard, first-up since being outclassed in Group 3 company at The Valley in March. 10. Shining High won two straight up to CL2 level before running home late at huge odds in a Rosehill Highway 16 days ago. Gap to the rest.

How to play it: Off The Press to win

Race 8 - 5:30PM TRIPLE THREAT RIVERINA BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

11. Rosie’s Prophecy is an underrated and still improving Wodonga mare well placed at big odds in the most open race on the program. Beat all bar the winner in consecutive CL1s before close-up in a blanket finish at Benalla. Then finished well from midfield in this grade at Corowa. While she’ll be forced back from a wide draw, drops in weight, is hard fit, and loves this trip. 1. King Incanto ran home well first-up in a weaker Victorian race. 7. Heavenly Kiss resumes off a quiet trial for a leading local stable with a key gear change. 9. Bold Triumph comes off a tough second-up win at this level, although up 2kg in weight. 5. Gold Tracker back on dryer ground third-up, and 6. Taluk can both figure in the minor money.

How to play it: Rosie’s Prophecy to win
