Neil Evans' Tips For Tamworth (Monday)

Track Good 4 and rail out 5m

By Neil Evans

Race 1 MAIDEN HCP (1400m):

Local mare 10. Medician Miss hit the line hard second-up after settling too far back, but again drawn well on the limit weight with blinkers back on, she can finally break through.

Dangers: Another well-weighted four-year-old 8. Just Like Lisa is also bursting to break through deep into her prep. Came from a long way back at Scone, but will again be forced towards the rear from a wide draw and will need a tonne of speed up front. Preferred here to Taree last Friday. Keep safe 1. Visceral who is a knock-out chance third-up.

How to play it: Medician Miss to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 2 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Another likely open affair. Keen on lightly raced home four-year-old 7. Royal Confession second-up with blinkers back on. Has been given five weeks since hitting the line from well back in a maiden that already holds strong form, and can settle closer here from a better draw.

Dangers: Big watch on debutant Shalaa three-year-old 8. Silver City who was scratched from Mudgee on Sunday to be saved for this. Has been given a stack of time at the trials, and looks read to go off a recent forward gallop. Capable mare 1. Bright Eyed Girl was a long way from the winner first-up, but she can settle a bit closer here and run home stoutly. Was scratched from Taree on Friday to run here. Consistent six-year-old 14. Mister Ripley has beaten all but the winner in his last four, and again draws to get a lovely run on speed; while expect improvement at fourth start from 4. Eureka despite the wide draw.

How to play it: Royal Confession to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (2100m):

Provincial mare 1. Jazirat goes up 4.5kg but finds a much thinner race. Worked home strongly here last start after a fighting win in heavy ground, and is the one to beat 24 days between runs.

Dangers: Under-rated 5. For Da Boys is ready for this longer journey after winning a similar graded race two starts back. Honest 4. Noble Cause has been in and around the money for much of this prep and also in a race with less depth, but has to overcome a tough draw.

How to play it: Jazirat to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 4 MAIDEN PLATE (1000m):

Back to the short course. Progressive four-year-old 3. Polylithic has enough speed to cross the field in what looms as the easiest race he's struck so far. Has finished close-up in the placings in three runs, and blinkers going on is a further plus.

Dangers: Keep safe Panzer Division four-year-old 2. Fiendish who debuts off a tidy trial win. Bull Point three-year-old 7. Devil's Inn has been given four spaced trials since early autumn, and looks ready to go from a handy draw; while Exceed And Excel three-year-old 6. Bongani can also have an impact on debut behind a smart trial.

How to play it: Polylithic to win and trifecta 2,3/2,3,6,7/2,3,6,7. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 TAMWORTH RUSH (1200m):

Good quality sprint with plenty of chances. Now that tough front-running four-year-old 8. Superior Witness is back in the winner's stall, he can go on with the job. Hasn't finished further back than second in four runs so far, and ran a quick time winning a weaker Class 3 last start, and drops 3.5kg for a tougher assignment.

Dangers: Tough six-year-old 2. Dubai Tycoon has to cart 61kg, but comes in hard fit off a strong BM 76 win, and draws to get a lovely run right behind the speed. Big watch on local five-year-old and ex-Kiwi 4. Edit who returns for his first first run this side of the Tasman. Hasn't started since last Boxing Day, but the new leading trainer has given him two forward open class trials. Local mare 7. Cassy's Sister draws to get good cover; while Taree mare 6. Gold Bracelet can run home into the minor end of the prize.

How to play it: Superior Witness to win and quinella 2 and 8. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 6 CLASS 2 HCP (1600m):

A heap of chances in this one too. Consistent provincial mare 3. Unwavering Faith worked home okay when resuming in a deeper race, and can strike second-up staying at the trip.

Dangers: Be very forgiving of four-year-old 2. McNair who was an impressive winner from off the speed two runs back before not getting the best of luck last start. Has more than enough ability in soft ground. Gap to the rest headed by five-year-old 5. Ziggi Rocks who rarely runs a bad one, and only beaten a head by a promising one here last start, but draws wide and hasn't won for a long time.

How to play it: Unwavering Faith each way and quinella 2 and 3. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 7 CLASS 2 HCP (1000m):

We wrap it up with the sprinters. Tough local six-year-old 2. I'm A Cracker is suited on the quick back-up after being edged out in his last three, but rises sharply in weight from a wide barrier.

Dangers: Local four-year-old 3. Tools Down resumes with a 1.5kg claim; and progressive 5. Apache Blue is second-up.

How to play it: I'm A Cracker to win. Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R2 7. ROYAL CONFESSION
R3 1. JAZIRAT

BEST VALUE:
R5 8. SUPERIOR WITNESS
