Neil Evans' Tips For Scone (Tuesday)

By Neil Evans

Track likely Soft 6 and rail out 6m from 800m to WP and 4m the remainder

Race 1 CLASS 1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600m):

One of the more open races on the card to start. Local mare 12. Martian Queen revelled in the ground here to land her maiden third-up off a lengthy break. Was backed in from double figure odds that day, and again can be tucked away back in the field, and saved for one last surge. Well over the odds.

Dangers: Expecting four-year-old 5. Full Coverage to keep producing, getting to the mile second-up after digging in for a tough maiden win at Tamworth. Improving 6. Onehero finished strongly in a BM 58 at home after surging late to win his maiden, and the more rain the better. Progressive colt 14. Feudalist rounded them up nicely at her third start in heavy ground at Nowra, and with a little weight drop is well capable of figuring in this tougher test. Watch the betting on 9. Stonesthrow who didn't fire a shot second-up in a deeper provincial race, but has trialled since in smart fashion.

How to play it: Martian Queen each way and trifecta 5,6,12/5,6,9,12,14/5,6,9,12,14. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1300m):

Got plenty of time for provincial mare 7. Just Like Lisa who has had four runs this prep, often without luck, and she can go close on a somewhat firmer track. Drawn to get to the outside.

Dangers: Like the decision to step three-year-old 9. Ciao Bicky immediately up in distance after working home fairly here on debut. Included in exotics 5. Decadent Tale at her second start; and 6. Haven third-up.

How to play it: Just Like Lisa each way. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 3 MAIDEN PLATE (1100m):

The first starters look set to dominate here at set weights, headed by Panzer Division filly 12. Lady Fraulein who is ready to rock for a leading metro stable. Out of a Sebring mare, and won the first of two recent trials in heavy ground.

Dangers: Keep safe provincial Eurozone mare 4. Save Your Kisses who debuts off two trials, winning the latest; while Dawn Approach colt 6. Just One Look also kicks off his career after winning the second of two recent trials.

How to play it: Lady Fraulein to win. Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (900m):

Back to the dash now, and it's a very testing affair. Extreme Choice filly 10. Don't Doubt Katie finished off well on debut at Tamworth, and three weeks between runs back to this distance on a suitably bigger track stacks up beautifully. Drawn the outside gate, but she'll settle well back and come with one big run.

Dangers: Local four-year-old 1. Mackinaw looked home first-up as a gelding for the new stable, but was nailed in the last stride. Blinkers have been added, and a much stronger rider goes on. Improving 4. Squeeak found the on-speed pressure too much on debut here in a stronger maiden, but can improve sharply over this shorter trip with blinkers removed. 3. Minniti can't afford to get too far back from the draw over this flying trip.

How to play it: Don't Doubt Katie each way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 CLASS 2 HCP (1300m):

Talented home track mare 7. Chomeur has plenty of ability, and can claim a third win from five starts this prep. Finished best to win a deeper race two starts back before strong through the line again in a much tougher Highway at Rosehill. The one to beat.

Dangers: Progressive mare 2. Empowerment made it two from three this prep, surging home from right behind the speed, and draws well again for this tougher test. Provincial five-year-old 3. Berruti was very good last start here, covering plenty of ground and sustaining a big finish on the outside rail to beat all but the winner. Is at peak fitness now, and should find this a little easier.

How to play it: Chomeur to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (900m):

Another one over the scamper distance. Front-running four-year-old 1. Superior Witness was only run down late by a very strong and exciting filly, and back 100m in trip under the same weight with an important 3kg allowance, he's the one to catch.

Dangers: Progressive local mare 3. Baiyka finally fulfilled recent promise sweeping home out wide to win a similar race, although not convinced the inside draw does her any favours up in weight. Keep safe 2. Ballistic Moon who resumes off a nice provincial trial win; and 7. Alchera first-up from a good draw.

How to play it: Superior Witness to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 7 BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1100m):

Plenty of chances here headed by progressive local mare 3. Miss Kingston who is headed for much better races. Charged home from a mile back here to miss by a whisker before again producing a dominant final surge to claim her maiden. Will likely be forced even further back this time drawn right off the track, but she only needs clear air from the 400m to round them up.

Dangers: Six-year-old 1. Deploys Alone can improve sharply fourth-up back on his more suitable home track; while watch for under-rated mare 5. Mosht Up getting home late from a wide draw. Include in exotics 12. Dragoneight who also likes to settle back and finish hard; while 7. Owhata Crumpet is also over the odds.

How to play it: Miss Kingston to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

BEST BETS:
R5 7. CHOMEUR
R6 1. SUPERIOR WITNESS

BEST VALUE:
R2 7. JUST LIKE LISA
