Neil Evans's Tips For Scone (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track is rated a Soft 5 with rain forecast and the rail out 4m the entire circumference.

Race 1 (12:20pm) SARDOS COFFEE MAIDEN PLATE (900m)

The little drop back in distance and likely downgrade in track are music to the ears of speedy filly 7. Minniti ($3.80 on TAB) who can break a run of four straight placings at her fifth start. Drawn out wide, but fit and fast for the shorter course and revels on soft ground.

Dangers: Plenty of them headed by talented provincial filly 9. Sheer Success ($2.10 favourite) who resumes from a six-month spell off a forward trial, with a significant gear change. Big market watch on home track three-year-old 2. Eureka ($15) who debuts in blinkers behind two progressive trials, while included in exotics another local filly 8. Miss Kingston ($9.50) who returns off a long break and debutante two-year-old filly 11. Almorah ($11) who has trialled okay despite being slow away and draws to get an economical run.

How to play it: Minniti to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 (12:55pm) THANK YOU DONNA MCKINNON 3YO MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100m)

Another deep and challenging maiden. Like the big value about Dundeel three-year-old 3. Mydeel ($7.50) who debuts at home off a trial where he sat on speed and leading country rider is aboard.

Dangers: Lightly raced filly 10. Love Is In The Air ($2.80 fav) has been given six weeks since a flat run in a stronger provincial maiden. Has since trialled and is much better weighted back on her home track. Keep safe resuming provincial filly 13. L'esperance Rock ($5) who was strong through the line winning a recent trial. Provincial filly 6. Falreine ($8.50) was no match for the winner at Wyong in heavy ground, but better suited on the bigger track at only her third start.

How to play it: Mydeel each-way and box trifecta 3,6,10,13
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 (1:35pm) GHAIYYATH @ DARLEY BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1700m)

Progressive five-year-old 2. Ocean Go ($2.70 fav) only needs clear air from the 600m to take care of this lot. Wasn't far away in a strong metro race before twice hitting the line from well back at Newcastle. At peak fitness and even better suited on the long sweeping stretch here.

Dangers: Emerging three-year-old and last start Class 3 winner 4. Theo Region ($3.90) isn't overly well weighted but is also hard fit and the more rain falls the stronger case he has, while locally-trained duo 9. Magic Charlee ($8) and 10. Lunasnit ($9.50) are both over the odds.

How to play it: Ocean Go to win
Odds and Evens: Evens

Race 4 (2:10pm) THOROUGHBRED INDUSTRY CAREERS MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300m)

Progressive local filly 13. Spritza Seritza ($4) can break through third-up with winkers added. Has attacked the line nicely in two runs back and from a lovely trailing draw, is very well treated on the limit weight.

Dangers: Home track three-year-old and stablemate to top selection 1. Steplee ($2.90 fav) has drawn the outside gate, but his fast-finishing effort on debut behind promising stablemate Mr Whitacre who has since won again was full of merit. Will go back and be saved for one late run. Improving filly 5. Swiss Scent ($6.50) can peak fourth-up after working home okay in a handy maiden at Dubbo, while looking for a market move on provincial first starter 9. Grecian Lass ($10) who has been given plenty of time at the trials.

How to play it: Spritza Seritza to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 5 (2:50pm) EARTHLIGHT @ DARLEY CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1300m)

Local four-year-old 4. Spilt ($3 fav) let punters down as a well backed favourite second-up, but a different story returning home to the much bigger track. Winkers have been added and expect him to be ridden a little quieter here.

Dangers: Provincial three-year-old 3. Prince Akeem ($3.60) fought on well third-up in a race with good depth and will get a charmed run right behind the speed. Under-rated filly 6. Sparky Girl ($8.50) hasn't won for a long time but she motored home in heavy ground at Taree fourth-up, and the wetter the better. Honest five-year-old 8. Swordsman ($5.50) hasn't finished further back than fourth in his last five and backs up in 12 days, while another one trained on the track, 7. Miss Efficiency ($14) is best of the rest.

How to play it: Spilt to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 (3:25pm) HAPPY TOOTH SCONE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1600m)

Home track three-year-old 3. Reach Beyond ($3.20 fav) can go back-to-back after finishing best to beat a very handy maiden field at Muswellbrook. Creeps up a little more in distance, and draws to get the right trail. By an emerging wet track sire.

Dangers: Improving 1. Destacado ($6) has been solid enough in two runs back although needs to find a length or two up in trip and weight. Don't dismiss five-year-old 12. Hillandale ($8) despite having only one win from 20 starts. Has been hitting the line better than ever this prep and in-form jockey takes over. Must keep safe local three-year-old 9. Switch Play ($7.50) fourth-up returning to a somewhat drier track after flopping badly on a shocking Heavy 10 last start.

How to play it: Reach Beyond to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 7 (4:05pm) MICROPHONE @ DARLEY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1400m)

Tough five-year-old 1. Nowyunomi ($4.20) may go to the Highway at Randwick on Saturday but either way, he's going great guns this prep. Emerged strongly through the Winter Series to win a good quality Final in smart fashion at Dubbo and thrives on rain-affected ground.

Dangers: Promising three-year-old 4. McNair ($3 fav) is still on the rise after charging home for a dominant maiden win at Coffs. Was preferred here to an earlier race although not totally convinced the inside draw at this track late in the day does him any favours. Dubbo five-year-old 7. Ollivander ($4) will likely zoom across from a wide barrier and take up the lead and can prove hard to catch. Hard fit and bolted in from the front last start, although does rise 3kg. Having broken a lengthy drought, capable five-year-old 9. Heredero ($7.50) can figure again on a track he has a 50% winning strike rate from four starts.

How to play it: Nowyunomi to win and box trifecta 1,4,7,9
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 (4:40pm) BLUE POINT @ DARLEY BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1100m)

Same grade over a shorter journey to finish augurs well for promising provincial filly 12. Pleading ($2.30 fav) who surged home for a dominant first-up maiden win off a long break. Has trained on nicely and drawn to settle back around midfield and charge over the top.

Dangers: Talented home filly 11. Baiyka ($5.50) has found the line well in two runs back. Blinkers have been added and the extra 200m is a big plus. Keep safe three-year-old 3. Defiant Heart ($7) who revelled in the going to claim his maiden at Gosford despite being unwanted in betting, and the forecast of rain keeps him well in the contest.

How to play it: Pleading to win
Odds and Evens: Split
