Neil Evans' Tips For Port Macquarie (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 7 and rail True

Race 1 - 12:35PM PGH COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

6. She’s A Wild One is an improving mare and great value second-up in what is a very tricky maiden. Worked home late to be beat all bar the winner when resuming and suited over 150m further. 1. King’s Cup is a locally-trained colt by Pariah on debut and carries a good wrap. Naturally a big betting watch behind a steady provincial trial and drawn wide. 12. Volare is an improving mare also drawn wide second-up off a lengthy break. 9. Mystic Way is another one trained on the track, and over the mark resuming from a sound draw; while home tracker 11. The Simple Life heads the rest third-up.

Race 2 - 1:10PM COLLINS W COLLINS BUILDING DESIGNERS BM58 HCP (1800 METRES)

2. Oakfield Peewee is a provincial-based improver tracking nicely fourth-up over more ground with the leading rider staying on. Gets back on preferred rain-affected ground, and boosted with the early top fancy coming out. 3. Casino Bear is a hard fit local who draws even wider coming off a tough front-running win in similar company 17 days ago. Doubt the winner comes from anywhere else, but include both 6. Heart Of Platinum, a local mare who has placed in four of her last five, and 9. Bold Splendor who drops in weight; in exotic plays.

Race 3 - 1:45PM WEATHERTEX COUNTRY BOOSTED CLASS 3 HANDICAP (1500 METRES)

2. Show ‘Em Howl is a progressive home track four-year-old well placed to claim a third career winat just his eighth start, with blinkers going on. Did his best work late in consecutive and deeper metro races before again charging home to miss narrowly in lesser class at Taree. Won’t be as far off them in a smaller field, and has better races on the radar. 1. Supreme Command is very honest and has been in and around the money all prep, including being beaten only three lengths in a much deeper Highway at Rosehill three starts back. Has boxed on okay from near the speed in his last two, and gets significant weight relief after the jockey’s claim. 3. Cluedo drops down from a tougher Newcastle race second-up, and looks well weighted back in country company. Those three look set to dominate betting; while 5. Pappiana up in class but with significant weight relief can figure in the minor money.

Race 4 - 2:20PM CDA EASTLAND TRADE SUPPLIES MAIDEN PLATE (1500 METRES)

11. Luna Cruiser is a provincial mare who hasn’t run a place for a long time, but hard fit she finally drops back to a weaker level after a string of runs at the provincials. Was only three lengths from promising Omaha Sand at Wyong 15 days ago, and is value over the odds in what is a fairly poor line-up. Drawn to get to the outside. 13. The Final Say finds a thinner race third-up and can peak at the longer trip. 9. Khant Fail only has to get over from the wide draw to be a serious threat dropping back sharply in trip a month between runs. Has been tackling better races over much further, and looks nicely weighted considering. 5. Power Through is lightly raced and over the odds third-up in a weak affair, although his better performances are on firmer ground. 2. Counterpart can defy his big price and improve enough to run a place. 8. Kermalicious with blinkers on heads the rest.

Race 5 - 2:55PM COASTAL COMMERCIAL LININGS MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

1. Dwayne reloads off a seven week break under equal top weight, but he’s been kept ticking over nicely via a trial win, and is the most capable galloper in the race. Right at home on wet tracks, and has been in and the money in much deeper metro and provincial races this prep. Blinkers come off, and while he’s drawn the extreme outside, that might be the place to be by this stage of the meeting. 5. Paralia has ability, and also returns off a break via a provincial trial, and jockey booking is significant. 14. Tapagal, a Capitalist filly on debut for the Nathan Doyle yard behind two trials, is a big market watch. 2. Fast Blue is second-up and was scratched from Thursday’s Tamworth meeting to be saved for this. 16. Real Magic resumes off two trials for the Kris Lees stable.

Race 6 - 3:30PM FASTPLAST BUILDING SUPPLIES F&M BM58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

2. All Too Wild is an improving provincial mare who rates on top third-up and staying over the distance. Hit the line well at Grafton before again beating all but the winner in a gallant chase at Gosford last start. Bigger field and drawn out, but she has tactical speed and much less depth here. 3. Got The Smarts is a second-up improver and bred to handle the going. 1. Snow Falcon is each-way value deep into the campaign in conditions she likes. 6. Trois three weeks after a long-priced debut win in heavy ground, and 9. A Notion deep into the prep with a liking for wet tracks; are both capable of running into the minor money.

Race 7 - 4:10PM KENNARDS HIRE CG&E BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1200 METRES)

10. Oakfield Pluto is a promising four-year-old from the Lees stable who is out to make it two from two at this track after a smart debut win in similar going. Again drawn to get cover behind the speed over a furlong further, and bred to thrive in the going. 4. Amarone is an honest home tracker and over the odds behind a tight second-up win here in similar conditions. 8. Dubai Gold can bounce back after dropping out a long way in tougher provincial company four weeks ago. 9. Love Rat who relishes wet tracks and drawn to get to the outside goes in wider exotic plays.

Race 8 - 4:50PM PETRIES MITRE 10 BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

7. Toomuchinformation is a tough and still improving seven-year-old who finds the right recipe third-up, drawn to get the outside. Beaten by a whisker in both runs back from a spell, but far superior jockey takes over, drops in weight and he thrives on any rain-affected ground. 4. Veecee is trained here, and the immediate threat having placed in his last two, the latest a fighting third in deeper CL2 Highway company. 10. The Piccolino loves to roll forward, and is big each-way value coming back a furlong in distance. 1. Buck Pharaoh cannot be discounted on soft or heavy tracks, despite being asked to carry a big weight. Is a three-time winner at this course and in heavy ground, and drops back from a tougher sprint at Coffs. 3. Outakandy second-up off a long break with a gear change, 11. Singing Star fourth-up in suitable going, and 12. Toy Story resuming; can all run into the minor money.
