Neil Evans' Tips For Muswellbrook (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track is a Good 4 with the rail in the True position.

Race 1 (12:40pm) HTBA 3YO MAIDEN HCP (1280m)

Tough metro three-year-old 1. Harley Street ($3.80 on TAB) was edged out by a nose resuming here. Goes up 3kg here, but draws the inside and is on the rise.

Dangers: Rival metro filly 5. Emerald Bay ($3.50 favourite) resumes off two trials for a leading metro stable.

How to play it: Harley Street to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 2 (1:20pm) TWO RIVERS WINES MAIDEN PLATE (1500m)

Promising provincial Teofilo colt 10. Geisel ($1.45 fav) can make amends for throwing away a first-up win at Scone when collared by a nose. Draws to control this with the "Wonder Woman" jockey aboard.

Dangers: Improving four-year-old 4. Mydeel ($3.90) peaks out over this trip at his third start. Has finished on late in two runs so far and can be saved up for the last surge from a soft draw. Include debutante 8. El Super ($12) in exotics.

How to play it: Geisel to win and quinella 4 and 10
Odds and Evens: Evens a special

Race 3 (1:55pm) ZOUSAIN @ WIDDEN STUD CLASS 2 HCP (1500m)

Got plenty of time for metro four-year-old 2. Freckle Rock ($2 fav) who resumes from a nine-month spell over a decent trip, but has been fitted with two searching trials over 1200m where he was strong through the line both times. Careered away to bolt in on debut over 1400m and he's headed for much bigger prizes than this.

Dangers: 4. Tinka's Lad ($2.90) goes up in distance after improving sharply to win here second-up and gets a little weight relief in a race with more depth. Provincial mare 3. Louder ($5) was very good, hitting the line hard in a thinner race third-up and afforded a 3kg drop in weight. Gap to the rest.

How to play it: Freckle Rock to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 4 (2:35pm) MUSWELLBROOK COAL COMPANY MAIDEN PLATE (1000m)

Very keen on three-year-old provincial filly 13. Leading Lady ($3.30) resuming behind two very tidy trials. A daughter of Japanese star and four-time Group 1 winner Maurice, she took on metro company in only two runs last prep.

Dangers: Despite the wide draw, ex-Kiwi five-year-old 4. Rockamo ($5) is over the odds second-up after a solid return at the provincials. Resuming filly 11. Hammoon Star ($1.95 fav) has drawn even further out but she has the class to win a moderate affair, resuming off two progressive trials.

How to play it: Leading Lady to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 (3:10pm) CHEERIO BOSS CLASS 1 HCP (1000m)

Still over the flying trip. Improving three-year-old 2. Trinity Missile ($1.75 fav) chased hard first-up in a good quality sprint and has drawn to get a charmed run right behind the speed. The one to beat.

Dangers: Scone mare 5. Miss Kingston ($4.60) hasn't missed a place in her last three and again will settle back and finish hard, while keeping safe 10. Stellar Blaze ($8)  second-up after charging home late here a fortnight ago.

How to play it: Trinity Missile to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 6 (3:50pm) PRESS STATEMENT @ VINERY CLASS 2 & ABOVE BM58 HCP (1000m)

Same trip but far more open. Progressive five-year-old 5. Ruby Factor ($3.10 fav) was terrific at Scone last start covering plenty of ground but still put paid to them in style. Up 2kg, but draws better with still scope to improve and this isn't much harder.

Dangers: Ex-Qld five-year-old 1. Dollareuro ($4) resumes off an eye-catching trial for a new provincial stable, while at bigger odds 4. Island Grange ($13) can figure second-up after not getting much room in the straight resuming.

How to play it: Ruby Factor to win
Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 (4:25pm) MAGIC MILLIONS QUEEN OF THE VALLEY MATCHMAKER HCP (1280m)

This shapes up nicely for home track filly 7. The Storm In Me ($2.70 fav) who overcame a tough run to score here first-up in heavy ground before finishing hard at Scone, after again doing plenty of work and the winner has since won a stronger class. Gets a more economical run here and she's the one to beat down on the limit weight.

Dangers: Big watch on resuming provincial mare 3. Patrina ($3.90) who has plenty of ability and has been strong to the line in two progressive trials. 2. Pluck And Lucky ($5.50) can be hard to catch, but she's been making up plenty of late ground in similar races and generally saves her best for the long straights.

How to play it: The Storm In Me to win
Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 8 (5:00pm) TIME TO REIGN @ KINGSTAR FARM CLASS 1 HCP (1280m)

Like lightly raced four-year-old mare 2. Whelk ($4.20) who resumes in first run for the Kris Lees stable. Has been fitted with two quiet trials and her only win so far from five starts came on debut over 1400m.

Dangers: Lightly raced four-year-old 1. Hurn Court ($3.50 fav) peaked second-up motoring home from the back to win her maiden and this is an ideal follow-up race over more ground. Improving 3. Bravio ($3.60) was even through the line resuming, but good weight relief via a 4kg claim should see him in the finish, while five-year-old 7. Spilt ($4.20) has been in and around the money all prep, although struggling to finish his races off.

How to play it: Whelk to win
Odds and Evens: Split
