Neil Evans' Tips For Moruya (Friday)

By Neil Evans

Track Soft 6 and rail True

Race 1 MAIDEN PLATE (1010m):

Fairly weak race to start which augurs well for improving mare 7. Sifu who can pounce second-up after hitting the line well here when heavily backed. Relishes soft going.

Dangers: Your Song filly 12. Little River Rose gets first use of the inside for an under-rated stable, and has trialled well ahead of her debut. Big watch on 8. Sweet Rosetta who resumes from an awkward draw without officially trialling; while keeping safe Super One debutant 9. Blood River behind a forward trial.

How to play it: Sifu to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 2 MAIDEN PLATE (1650m):

Local four-year-old 3. Lights On The Hill can peak fourth-up getting out over this trip. Like the way he's worked home from midfield in his last couple, and is over the odds.

Dangers: Improving four-year-old 2. Lawyer's Delight should be able to find the front or at least sit outside the lead, and with blinkers added will take plenty of running down. Blinkers also go on 7. Hokahey who was solid through the line resuming, and draws to get a cushy run right behind the speed. Include both 10. Shooting Zaa and 11. So I See in exotics.

How to play it: Lights On The Hill each way and trifecta 2,3/2,3,7,10,11/2,3,7,10,11. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 3 CLASS 3 HCP (1000m):

Lightly raced 7. Private Agent was strong through the line resuming in a Highway at Randwick, and drew to put this lot to the sword. Best weighted runner by a space.

Dangers: Consistent mare 5. Esteemed Lady is the quinella runner up in grade after finishing best to claim a CL1; while 3. Belieber is the trifecta "player" resuming off a fair trial from the inside gate.

How to play it: Private Agent to win and quinella 5 and 7. Odds and Evens: Odds a special

Race 4 MAIDEN HCP (1200m):

Very open battle. Provincial mare 8. Hope Uno is much better suited coming back to this trip on soft ground after finding a couple stronger here 18 days ago.

Dangers: Always had plenty of time for three-year-old 9. Vaaroom although he's failed to deliver so far. Will get back from the draw, but bred to thrive on wet tracks and is sneaking down in the weights. Expecting locally-trained 2. Yorker to improve sharply second-up; while 4. Aftershock ran home nicely on debut, and shapes well over the odds being bred to perform on rain-affected ground.

How to play it: Hope Uno each way. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 5 FILLIES & MARES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1200m):

Decent speed in this one, and that should suit progressive mare 11. Grand Palazzo who can strike second-up. Ran home well resuming in a handy provincial maiden, and is well placed over 200m further, and with a much stronger and superior rider booked.

Dangers: Keep safe five-year-old mare 1. Scalded who is looking for this trip third-up. Consistent mare 4. Blue Glass has enough early speed to off-set the tricky barrier; while 8. Shrug is best of the rest third-up.

How to play it: Grand Palazzo to win. Odds and Evens: Odds

Race 6 COLTS, GELDINGS & ENTIRES BENCHMARK 58 HCP (1200m):

Like progressive four-year-old 3. All Formidable to go back-to-back after sweeping home to win his maiden at Wagga when heavily backed. That was only his third start, and this isn't much stronger.

Dangers: Home track four-year-old 4. Get Shafted stepped up to this trip third-up and charged over them easily in a dominant maiden win, although comes back a peg on soft ground. Local six-year-old 5. Globalise has been given six weeks since a game effort in tougher Highway grade, and can roll forward from a handy draw. Hard fit six-year-old 1. Canzonet has to cart 61.5kg, but has speed to get over the wide draw and beaten all bar the winner in three of his last four.

How to play it: All Formidable to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 7 BENCHMARK 66 HCP (1650m):

Lightly raced local six-year-old 6. Blaazay is building an imposing record, and all three career wins from 10 starts have come here. Up sharply in weight but drops back from an impressive closing effort in deeper Highway grade. Will settle back and produce a dominant final 400m.

Dangers: Keep safe 5. My Blue Jeans who can mix his form, but is tough-as-teak and ran home hard to win in this grade here three starts back. Included in exotics 11. Riverstock who was only beaten narrowly at this track two runs back; while 7. Rent A Rock hasn't been far away in his last two, and gets in well at the weights after a 4kg allowance.

How to play it: Blaazay to win. Odds and Evens: Split

Race 8 CLASS 2 HCP (1425m):

Loved how progressive five-year-old 4. Budderoo Blitz knuckled down and surged over the top to win his maiden here. Bred to thrive on rain-affected ground, and wider draw suits his style.

Dangers: Lightly raced 5. Viking Power resumes without publicly trialling, but won first-up last prep; and 1. Port Douglas can improve sharply second-up.

How to play it: Budderoo Blitz to win. Odds and Evens: Split

BEST BETS:
R5 11. GRAND PALAZZO
R7 6. BLAAZAY

BEST VALUE:
R8 4. BUDDEROO BLITZ
