Moree Winners - Tips For Sunday 31st August

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Moree meeting. Selections based on a good to soft track.

Race 1 - 1:05PM 2VM NOW FM & SPARKES JEWELLERS MAIDEN HANDICAP (950 METRES)

Some luck will be needed from the outside gate but 7. Angels Cloud might finally have her chance to break through after seven placings in 14 starts, the last six in a row. Freshened up since a close second at Port Macquarie in mid-June. Should be competitive.

Dangers: 3. Brea Ex ran some handy races in her first preparation including a debut second over 1000m. Hard to get a guide on the trial but on race form is worth keeping safe. 2. Prince Of Prophets has first run since last spring and for new stable. Did run well when coming from last into second behind Neil back in November. Check betting. 5. Nucleaire was given a sound out to win his trial at Scone a couple of weeks ago. Has the wide gate as well but couldn’t leave out of a winnable maiden.

How to play it: Angels Cloud WIN.

Race 2 - 1:40PM WESTPAC RESCUE HELICOPTER SERVICE C1 & MAIDEN PLATE (1600M)

11. Aleishka looked set for a good campaign with an eye-catching second at Coonabarabran second-up but perhaps the heavy 8 wasn’t to her liking at Muswellbrook a month ago. Freshened up from that and lands in a wide open race. She could be hard to hold out.

Dangers: 5. Final Impact looks the major danger and while his record overall is a bit ordinary he’s had two runs for the new stable and been placed in both. Coming back to a grass track is a plus and he has a good chance. 7. Royal Armada won nicely three starts back at Scone, went fairly at Dubbo then back at home he was a big drifter before running third at 1700m. Should be running well here. 1. Blazed Prince had some support first-up but did little then improved out to 1400m last time when running on okay. Might be on the way back to form.

How to play it: Aleishka WIN.

Race 3 - 2:15PM MCGREGOR GOURLAY & NORTH WEST EVENTS SUPER MAIDEN (1400M)

2. Sethnique did more than enough at his first run for the new stable at Tamworth, he’s ex-Waterhouse/Bott, where he held ground at 1200m in a handy form race. Step up in trip looks ideal and lack of depth in this race gives him a big chance to break through.

Dangers: 4. Zou De Lagos is on debut for a new yard and he hasn’t been seen in public since making the switch following a couple of Mornington jump outs in July. One to keep an eye on. 1. Bole Le was a big price on debut in April but does look to have trialled well this time in and resumes with the blinkers on. Each-way chance. 3. Speed Of Gold has to jump from the 900m first-up but did show he’s come back better with a closing second just under two weeks ago at Scone. Has run well at 1400m previously so stays under notice.

How to play it: Sethnique WIN.

Race 4 - 2:50PM CAMPBELL'S FUEL SERVICE & RDO EQUIPMENT C1 HANDICAP (1200M)

2. Cresta Run was run down after leading at Scone off a month’s gap as a $1.65 favourite but probably no disgrace given the winner has since run second in a Highway. Gets a weight drop after the claim and should take plenty of running down in this.

Dangers: 8. Trois won well at odds at her debut at Tamworth then favourite and boxed on to run second at Port Macquarie, both starts on a heavy track. Draws kindly and if she can bring that form onto better ground she’s a danger. 6. Hefty Price is racing in good form at the moment with a win and three seconds from his past four starts. Led and gave a good sight last time and is an each-way chance again. 1. Brutal Love ran well under a big weight when resuming but disappointed at Tamworth last time, perhaps the wide gate and distance drop didn’t help. Drawn out again but trip suits and can do better.

How to play it: Cresta Run WIN.

Race 5 - 3:25PM BOLAND PETROLEUM MOREE TOWN PLATE (950 METRES)

1. Who Goes There has a smart record and has been too slick in successive 1000m wins at Tamworth at his past two starts in July. Missed a planned Sydney run with the wet weather so it’s now a six week gap but he’s a good short courser and hard to beat.

Dangers: 3. Bomarea didn’t fire in Brisbane second-up but she returned with an excellent second over the Grafton carnival. She’s rarely far from them over these short trips. 7. Soobooco is up in class but down 5kg on a solid second over this track and distance a month ago. Another consistent type who can’t be left out of the chances. 5. Jet Empress was right in the market and looked to have her chance behind Who Goes There at Tamworth but was only second-up so give another chance.

How to play it: Who Goes There WIN.

Race 6 - 4:00PM NORTH WEST GINNING CLASS 3 HANDICAP (950 METRES)

7. Gerety did a good job when coming off more than a two month break to run third at Tamworth after sitting right on the speed. Stuck on well there and can only be fitter. A handy weight drop is a plus as well after the claim and has a good chance.

Dangers: 3. City Gold Speed has largely run well in his short career to date and is fresh since an on pace third at Muswellbrook a month ago. Firmer track might be a plus and gets his chance from the inside gate. 6. Live To Rise is lightly raced and yet to run a bad one. Started favourite and narrowly prevailed over this track and distance just over a month ago. Hard to leave out. 5. Keadool was a Wellington winner over the 900m on a heavy track and was game in defeat up in distance at Bathurst. Down 3kg on that and is in the mix.

How to play it: Gerety WIN.

Race 7 - 4:35PM AGRISTORAGE AND LOGISTICS MOREE CUP (1400 METRES)

8. Tavros hasn’t had the ideal preparation being first-up since a strong win at Tamworth in mid-June but does look to have some promise. Ticked over with a Scone trial two weeks ago, drawn well and is proven up to a mile. If there’s support it’d be an extra tick.

Dangers: 1. Amicus Curiae returned to NSW and was a little disappointing at Dubbo a few weeks ago but he is at his best around this sort of distance, draws well and if he can find his best form he’ll run very well. 3. Rhythm Is A Dancer hasn’t raced since finishing about midfield in the Ramornie in July. Honest type who has won five races at this distance range and has to be considered. 5. Leica Ruby is unbeaten in three runs at this track and comes off a solid win at Grafton six weeks ago. Wide gate against her but must be considered.

How to play it: Tavros WIN.

Race 8 - 5:10PM MOREE SERVICES CLUB BM58 SHOWCASE HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

1. The Impeckable is racing particularly well and was far from disgraced in a Highway at Rosehill a couple of weeks ago, running on into sixth. Has to carry a big weight here, offset a little by the claim, but only needs to hold form to be in the finish.

Dangers: 6. Zahdi ran up to her handy resumption with a closing third at Scone over this trip. Back in class and looks one of the major chances. 5. Capicella won easily enough at Queanbeyan before a below par effort at Tamworth when right in the market in this grade. Perhaps give another chance from a more favourable draw. 4. Mrs Bull scored a rare win first-up before a fair effort last week at Narromine. Also drawn a lot better this time and she’s so consistent a placing is well within her reach.

How to play it: The Impeckable WIN.
