Mikayla Weir Dashes Clear In Rising Star Series

Mikayla Weir has extended her Rising Star Series lead after taking out Heat 10 at Warwick Farm on Wednesday (13th January).

Weir saluted the judge with Margie Bee ($3 equal favourite) for trainer Kristen Buchanan, becoming the first apprentice to notch multiple wins this Series.

Her other victory was recorded in Heat 4 at Orange when riding Gossip ($6.50) on December 14th.

Weir defeated Brandon Griffiths on Let's Rebelle ($21) with Reece Jones in third place on Havin' Fun ($3 eq fav).

Boasting 27 points, Weir now sits 13 points clear of Chris Williams (14 points) with Jean Van Overmeire and Cejay Graham equal third with 13 points apiece.

Heat 11 will be run at Wyong next Wednesday (20th January).

Meanwhile, Jean Van Overmeire celebrated his first Rising Star victory for the season after winning Heat 9 at Nowra last Sunday (10th January).

Van Overmeire piloted the short-priced favourite Rocketing By ($1.30) to victory for trainer David Pfeiffer, with Tyler Schiller (Turfeze, $10) and Mikayla Weir (Arizona Night, $10) rounding out the placings.
