Memphis Out To Continue Smith's Winning Run (Scone Tuesday)

By John Schell

Warwick Farm trainer Matthew Smith will send a strong team of three runners to Scone on Tuesday with the horseman out to continue his winning form after a Randwick triumph on Saturday.

Smith will link with leading apprentice Anna Roper when she partners Lady Memphis in the Agnes Marshall Class 1 Handicap (900m), while Ashley Morgan will do the steering on Omaha Sand in the Heather Ashford Maiden Handicap (1300m) and Dubai Warrior in the Coolmore Class 1 & Maiden Plate (1600m).

“The team have all been running well of late,” said Smith.

“There’s no reason that will stop now.”

Lady Memphis is a filly by Invader that has only had two starts. She ran second behind top class performer and The TAB Everest contender Private Harry on debut.

She backed that up with a dominant on pace triumph at Goulburn when racing on the speed and fighting on too strongly.

She’s had two trials leading into this resuming effort.

Omaha Sand is also resuming from a spell on the back of three barrier trials.

He’s had three starts and has been unplaced in each of them and hasn’t raced since December when finishing down the track at Newcastle.

“He’s had two barrier trials leading into this first-up run,” said Smith.

“The latest trial was the best of them, and all things point to a good showing.”

Dubai Warrior is a talented performer and looks poised to run well in his event at Scone.

“He has a win and three placings to his name from seven starts,” said Smith.

“His form was good leading into his latest start at Wagga when he was a short-priced favourite.

“He had his chance there but still ran well. He’s run really well in a trial since then and should be ready to run another good race.”

Todd Howlett has a couple of good chances also set to go around at Scone on Tuesday with Gold Sluice (Mikayla Weir) and Archaic Force (Aaron Bullock) in the Scone Equine Hospital Class 1 Handicap (1100m).

Both gallopers are set to run well with the stable also being in form.
