A cracking weekend is approaching – it’s not only a NSW long weekend, but Saturday is TAB Epsom and Metrop Day at Royal Randwick, and Sunday is NRL Grand Final Day along with the commencement of daylight saving.
Moruya starts the long weekend early with an excellent program on Friday
But preceding the weekend is Friday’s Moruya’s SCB Distributors ‘Legend of the South’ Raceday.
Ken Brown, Moruya Jockey Club’s Executive Officer, said: “We’re expecting a great day at the track to celebrate The Legend of the South which is now in its third year.
“There will be a terrific eight-race card with plenty of encouragement given to get to the Coast on the Friday before the long weekend and to the races.
“This is a fantastic family raceday with entertainment off the track including a DJ, three-legged racing, a Fashions on the Field as well as a jumping castle and facepainting for the kids.
“The Club greatly appreciates the support given by businesses in our community of which SCB Distributors leads the way with their initiative and support of the feature that carries $42,000 in prizemoney.”
Preparations have been underway for weeks leading up to Sunday’s Cootamundra Cup meeting with $32,000 prizemoney for this year’s Cootamundra Cup (1600m).
Cootamundra Turf Club’s President, Jeff Bristow said: “We have the grass track shaping up to be one of the best racing surfaces in years after the recent rains across the southwest region of NSW.
“Our course didn’t miss a drop on the edge of town, and the grass is thriving thanks to the warm sunny days we’ve had.”
Saturday is the annual Tabulam Cup Day with the Cup Calcutta the night before
CTC’s Vice-President, Kace Devlin said: “Punters and families love to dress up and enjoy a day out at the races and it is the first day of daylight saving for 2025.
“Fashions on the Field will be another attraction along with a special treat for the younger generation with free face painting. A TAB and bookmakers are operating with hot food and cold beverages on track.
“The community shuttle bus will operate from the Post Office with return trips to town after the last race.”
Meanwhile, the town of Tabulam near Casino will stage its annual Cup meeting on Saturday sponsored by Smith’s Butchery.
It all starts at 6pm on Friday with the Cup Calcutta at the ‘Tabby Hotel’ before Yulgilbar Pastoral Company Sam Hordern Memorial Tabulam Cup Day on Saturday.
It’s a five-race community card with plenty of food and coffee trucks, TAB facilities, kids’ entertainment, a Fashions on the Field for all ages and jockeys and trainers’ bonuses.
Entertainment is by Kev from Step Up Karaoke with camping available.
Also on Saturday is Wagga picnic races that supports the Country Hope Charity raising funds for kids with cancer.
Live entertainment is by Wagga’s own The Unplugged Trio with a Fashions on the Field competition.
