John Schell's Tips For Wagga (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a good track

Race 1 - 12:45PM JOHN CLARK SHOWCASE MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

3. Yourawizard has only had five starts and has been placed in the latest two of them either side of a spell. He’s run well in each of those runs and although drawn wide in this, he looks to have the talent to be able to break through.

Dangers: 8. Box Of Crackers has been placed in six of 14 starts and has the talent to give this a shake if she runs up to those efforts. 11. Scarli Japili has looked good in two trials and is primed to run well here. 2. Secret Edge is also on debut and should run well based on his two trials.

How to play it: Yourawizard WIN.

Race 2 - 1:20PM KOORINGAL STUD 2YO HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

3. Cosmic Cry is on debut here from the strong Danielle Seib stable and has the advantage of barrier one here with Danny Beasley taking the ride. He’s had one barrier trial at Canberra and that resulted in a third placing. He should get a good run in this and prove hard to hold out.

Dangers: 1. Conjoin ran well on debut at Albury when finishing second then was midfield on the Riverside track here last time out. He has the ability to show up here. 5. Take The Rap is a recent trial winner at Goulburn and is well worth including among the main chances here, while 6. Yes Yes Tess is in a strong stable and a forward showing would not surprise.

How to play it: Cosmic Cry WIN.

Race 3 - 1:55PM BEDE MURRAY SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES)

1. Sakimarjuel has been placed in his last three starts, with the latest effort being a second at the Sapphire Coast when less than a length behind Laguna Seca. He won a trial at Canberra before that and has drawn well.

Dangers: 10. Dolly has been placed in each of her three starts and is knocking on the door for a win. She’s drawn the rails alley and must be respected here. 9. Divron ran third on the Riverside track here on debut and is worth plenty of thought here. 12. Veloce Rosa is making her debut here and is a recent trial winner.

How to play it: Sakimarjuel EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 2:30PM FINANCE TYCOON MURRUMBIDGEE CUP (1800 METRES)

2. Sizzle Minizzle won the Country Championships last year and he is racing in good style again leading into this. He finished fourth and sixth in lead ups to this year’s Country Championships, before finishing a close-up last start third in the Wellington Cup behind Lockdown Gamble.

Dangers: 4. One Aye failed to fire in the Wellington Cup last time out but her form before that was solid including a third in the Albury Mile. 5. Offspring sat wide in the Gundagai Cup on the Riverside track at her latest start and only needs to run up to that to be a leading contender here. 7. Look Sharpish is rarely far from the action and must be considered among the main chances.

How to play it: Sizzle Minizzle WIN.

Race 5 - 3:10PM THE BROTHERS WAR SHOWCASE BM58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

1. Capital Express has finished just behind the placings in each of her three runs since resuming from a spell. She’s got a handy record having won three of her 20 starts, and has drawn well in this with Blaike McDougall taking the ride.

Dangers: 3. Chaotic Beauty hit winning form scoring two successive victories at Goulburn and Cowra before failing at her lates two starts at Goulburn and Dubbo. She has the ability to bounce back here. 6. Howling Victory has been placed in two of her four starts since resuming from a spell and warrants respect again here. 9. Tillman ran fourth at this track when last produced and is well worth including among the main chances in this.

How to play it: Capital Express WIN.

Race 6 - 3:50PM PRIZED ICON GUINEAS PRELUDE 3YO BM66 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

1. Everido is a well performed galloper which won his first two starts in good style at Canberra. He has since been close-up in a further four starts, the latest a fifth on the Kensington track when beaten just over one length.

Dangers: 4. Dunloe is a winner of two from six starts and won at Ballarat last time out after a fourth at that track before a third at Pakenham. His form looks good for a race like this. 6. Tiger Town is racing in great form, having won at Orange two starts ago before powering home to score last time out at Wellington. 7. Toes In The Water had no luck last time out on the Riverside track here and should take plenty of beating.

How to play it: Everido WIN.

Race 7 - 4:30PM MERCHANT NAVY AT KOORINGAL WAGGA TOWN PLATE PRELUDE (1200M)

8. Canny Hell is a three-year-old taking on the older horses here and is building up a good record with four wins from eight starts. He won the Albury Guineas at his latest start and won a trial leading into this.

Dangers: 3. Tap ‘N’ Run ran well when a last start fourth at Albury. He has a good overall record and this looks a race to suit. 11. The Prodigal Son was down the track at Caulfield last time out but will find this much easier. 5. Miss Ostend is resuming from a spell but is handy at best and is worth including among the main chances.

How to play it: Canny Hell WIN.

Race 8 - 5:10PM SANDBAR QUEEN OF THE SOUTH PRELUDE BM58 (1300 METRES)

5. Vereeva broke her maiden at the Sapphire Coast two starts ago at just her third race start. She backed that up with a last start third at Goulburn and only needs to run up to those efforts to be a factor here.

Dangers: 2. Communication has been placed at Albury and Echuca in two of her latest three starts and is worth plenty of thought again in this. 7. Letme Entertainyou was just behind the placings here last time out and she’s shown enough ability in her career to be rated a leading contender here. 9. Nautico resumed from a lengthy spell with a strong win at Canberra as favourite and she should be hard to beat again if she can maintain that form.

How to play it: Vereeva EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 6 (1) Everido.
Race 7 (8) Canny Hell.

Best Value:
Race 3 (1) Sakimarjuel.
