John Schell's Tips For Tuncurry Cup Day (Friday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a good track)

Race 1 - 12:10PM TUNCURRY BEACH BOWLING CLUB "THE MAN WALK " PLATE (2100M)

3. Twin Turbo led throughout to score at Kembla Grange back in June and in three subsequent starts he has been around the mark with a fifth at Gosford, a fourth at Newcastle, and then a third at Gosford last time out. He should push forward from a wide alley in this, and will take plenty of running down.

Dangers: 2. Penfold Park was a Kempsey winner before following a midfield effort at this track with a second at Kempsey. He can be prominent again. 9. Italiano ran well enough at Wyong last time out to suggest the longer trip here will suit, while 8. Cynic has been close-up in his recent runs and warrants respect.

How to play it: Twin Turbo WIN.

Race 2 - 12:50PM CANADIAN CLUB COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

3. Bob’s Last One ran well in a trial at Taree before debuting with an unlucky second behind stablemate Chester Le Street at the same track. With the benefit of that run under his belt, as well as the inside draw, Bob’s Last One is the horse to beat here.

Dangers: 5. The Young Years is a local galloper that performed well enough in a trial at this track to be rated a strong contender. 4. King Rupert has been placed in one of his four starts and resumes from a lengthy spell here on the back of a trial placing. 11. Avoid Me has been midfield in a couple of Port Macquarie runs of late and could sneak into the placings.

How to play it: Bob’s Last One WIN.

Race 3 - 1:25PM NOBLE REALTY FORSTER SHOWCASE MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

2. Hongkong Harmony was first-up for three years when running well for a third at Gosford, then followed that with a solid enough fourth at Wyong. He disappointed last time out when finishing last at Wyong, but if that run is forgiven his previous form is strong enough for a race like this. Hongkong Harmony has drawn well here and should take up a prominent position.

Dangers: 11. Perri Lass has had four trials to prepare for her debut here and should be primed to run well. 12. Showtime Sassy finished second at Scone on debut and a repeat of that would have her figuring in this. 1. Beetson is resuming from a spell in this and is capable of a forward showing while fresh.

How to play it: Hongkong Harmony EACH WAY.

Race 4 - 2:05PM SPORTIES TUNCURRY SHOWCASE MAIDEN PLATE (1200 METRES)

11. Chilli Filly ran third in a Wyong trial behind Cylinder last November but ever made to the races that preparation. She has had two trials since coming back this campaign and was placed in each of them. She’s drawn gate one here and is the one to beat.

Dangers: 5. Miss Cartel has had two runs either side of a spell and finished fourth in each of them. She can show up here without surprising. 6. Ranhita ran third at Wyong last time out behind Global Empire and that form should hold up here. 4. Dance Off is on debut here having had two trials to prepare. A forward showing is expected.

How to play it: Chilli Filly WIN.

Race 5 - 2:40PM CHOICES FLOORING FORSTER COUNTRY BOOSTED C1 HCP (1400 METRES)

8. Typhoon Neta was having her 17th start when finally breaking her maiden at Taree last time out. She did the job well on that occasion and from the good draw here there’s no treason she can’t go on with the job.

Dangers: 10. Spring Wellness finished second at Taree last time out and a repeat of that would have him in the thick of things here. 9. Mellencamp has been racing well in recent runs and could sneak into the placings if the breaks go his way. 1. Golden Button ran well when resuming from a spell with a second at Tamworth and can be thereabouts again.

How to play it: Typhoon Neta EACH WAY.

Race 6 - 3:20PM TUNCURRY BEACH BOWLING CLUB GOLDEN MILE BM58 HCP (1600M)

4. Don’t Forget Dad finished second at this track two starts ago then went one better to score at Kempsey last time out. Expect him to run well again.

Dangers: 13. Yehbut hasn’t been disgraced in recent runs despite being out of the placings and could figure without surprising. 1. Claptone is handy on his day and is far from the worst. 3. Shihab followed a second at Taree with a midfield effort here last time out and could show up in the placings on his best form.

How to play it: Don’t Forget Dad EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 3:55PM FORSTER BOWLING CLUB STRAND BAR & GRILL SUPER MAIDEN (1400M)

5. Team America was in the placings at Newcastle and Muswellbrook at his first two starts, then ran fourth at Wyong at his only other outing. He has some upside and this race looks well within his capabilities from the good barrier.

Dangers: 7. Pennart was only having his second start when finishing third in maiden grade at Gosford. He looks suited here. 10. Shark Island made his NSW debut when finishing fifth as favourite at Grafton and will strip fitter for this. 14. Trajectile was midfield on debut at Scone and is an improver here.

How to play it: Team America WIN.

Race 8 - 4:35PM TUNCURRY-FORSTER JC XXXX CUP - NOBLE REALTY FORSTER (2100M)

9. Commander Bell steps up to 2100m here having finished fourth at his latest two starts at Gosford and Wyong. He had figured in the placings in a few runs before those efforts, and is a two-time winner of 1900m so the step up to the trip here shouldn’t be a concern from the inside gate.

Dangers: 1. Dreamdeel was solid when leading throughout to win at Wyong three starts ago and has had two runs in city grade since then. He will find this a shade easier. 2. Jack Duggan has run well enough at his past two starts to be rated a contender here, while 7. Torowoto is a last start Tamworth winner and can run well here.

How to play it: Commander Bell EACH WAY.

Race 9 - 5:10PM "THE EVERMORE PEARL” SPONS. BY BROKEN BAY PEARLS BM66 (1200M)

5. Elleves has hit form of late having won his last two starts at Tamworth and Scone. Elleves can settle in a prominent position from a good barrier and can continue the winning sequence.

Dangers: 1. Lucky Sham ran well at Taree last time out when finishing second and a repeat of that would have him figuring prominently again. 7. Indy Rose Warrior won three on the trot earlier this year before finishing just behind the placings in two TAB Highway races before being spelled. She can sprint well fresh here. 9. Powderfinger was outclassed in TAB Highway company at her latest start and can improve back to this grade from the inside gate.

How to play it: Elleves WIN.

Best bets:
Race 2 (3) Bob’s Last One.
Race 4 (11) Chilli Filly.

Best value:
Race 8 (9) Commander Bell.
