John Schell's Tips For Taree (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a heavy track)

Race 1 - 1:15PM STACKS LAW FIRM COUNTRY MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300 METRES):

2. Mad Harry is yet to figure in the placings from four starts but he has been just behind the placings in each of them and comes into this on the back of a last start sixth as favourite at Dubbo. This doesn’t appear to be an overly strong race and with Grant Buckley on from gate four he gets his chance.

Dangers: 1. Mr Villa has been placed at Tuncurry in his latest two starts and only needs to run up to those efforts to be a contender in this. 3. Mosgiel Daisy was placed at Coffs Harbour at her second start and looks to be an improver. 6. La Cache A Vin has been midfield in a couple of recent Grafton runs and could be placed in this.

How to play it: Mad Harry WIN.

Race 2 - 1:50PM TAB MAIDEN PLATE (1600 METRES):

6. Seasons Of Mist is lightly raced with only three starts to his name but he has been placed in two of them at Wyong and Muswellbrook late last year before being spelled. He resumes here over 1600m and has had two trials to ensure he is primed to run well.

Dangers: 8. All Too Rosey ran well at Rosehill two starts ago when finishing fourth in a super maiden but then failed to fire at Wyong. She can figure in this if anywhere near her best. 4. Santatime has been placed in two of his three starts and wasn’t beaten far when fifth at Newcastle in the other. 11. Fighting Daughter has bee placed in her last two starts and could be placed again here.

How to play it: Seasons Of Mist WIN.

Race 3 - 2:25PM WAITUI FALLS MAIDEN PLATE (1000 METRES):

3. Rum Diary is resuming from a spell here having had two trials in preparation. He had two starts last November and finished second on debut at Muswellbrook before finishing third at Wyong when leading. This race looks well within his reach.

Dangers: 2. Merchant Speed hasn’t been beaten far in two Nowra runs since resuming from a spell. He’s having his first start for a new trainer here and warrants plenty of thought. 4. Sleeping Lion comes into this on the back of a last start placing at Muswellbrook and could be placed again with a repeat of that. 13. Rubi’s Serve is a filly on debut and she’s been fitted for this with a number of trials.

How to play it: Rum Diary WIN.

Race 4 - 3:05PM COOPERNOOK HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

2. Pennart had solid form without winning before finding the perfect race to break through in at Tuncurry last time out when leading all the way as a short-priced favourite. Now that he’s won he can go on with the job.

Dangers: 3. Singapura resumed from a lengthy layoff with a midfield effort at Tuncurry and should strip fitter for that effort. 8. Grand Horizon has shown talent and a placing wouldn’t surprise. 5. Atacama wasn’t beaten too far at Gosford last time out and has bright place prospects.

How to play it: Pennart WIN.

Race 5 - 3:40PM ELSMERE PASTORAL COUNTRY BOOSTED C1 HCP (1250 METRES):

4. Antisocial made her debut at Tamworth and did the job well to score on a heavy track after racing on the speed. She’s had two runs back from a spell and followed a resuming third at Dubbo with a second at the same track. She’s ready to peak in this.

Dangers: 6. The Young Years was rewarded for her consistency when resuming from a spell with a strong Tuncurry win and she can go on with the job now. 7. Cool Duke when winning on debut at Tuncurry and looks to have plenty of upside. 3. Eagledge has had three starts back from a spell and looks set to peak now.

How to play it: Antisocial WIN.

Race 6 - 4:15PM CROSS FAMILY COMO DAIRY HANNAM VALE CUP- BM 82 HCP (1600 M):

10. Yorikiri has won two of six on heavy tracks and comes into this on the back of a last start second behind Buba at Gosford. He’s a winner over this distance and his latest form has been solid enough for this.

Dangers: 7. Oakfield Redgum has had three runs back from a spell at Wyong and has been showing improvement in each of them and can figure prominently here. 1. Imatruestar had been racing well in city grade before running a great race when Group 3 placed in the Newcastle Stakes last time out. A repeat of that would have him in the finish of this. 2. Kapsali is a last start Coffs Harbour winner that is deserving of respect.

How to play it: Yorikiri EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 4:50PM FARMERS OWN MILK CG&E BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES):

1. October Revolution has a big weight to contend with and will carry 63 kilograms after apprentice Courtney Bellamy’s two-kilogram claim. He was a winner this track three starts ago with 62.5kgs.

Dangers: 3. Oblivion comes into this after a last start Kempsey win and is not out of this if he can repeat that effort. 8. Just One Look is a last start Tuncurry winner that is worth including among the main chances again. 10. Bandolero is resuming from a spell and can run a good race fresh despite the wide barrier.

How to play it: October Revolution WIN.

R8 - 5:30PM BUDGEREE HOLSTEINS HANNAM VALE BRACELET BM 58 HCP (1000 M):

9. Penny For resumed with a fourth on a heavy track at Tuncurry and was a winner there last campaign on a soft track. She’s lightly raced and looks to have some upside.

Dangers: 1. Soju Session led all the way to score at Coffs Harbour at her latest start and should give plenty of cheek again here in similar grade. 2. Miss Arizona was a winner here three starts ago back in November and has the ability to give this a shake. 5. Snowdrop has been racing consistently and can figure in the money again from an outside gate.

How to play it: Penny For EACH WAY.

Best Bets:
Race 3 (3) Rum Diary.
Race 5 (4) Antisocial.

Best Value:
Race 6 (10) Yorikiri.
