John Schell's Tips For Tamworth (Friday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 11:55AM LIGHTNING RIDGE BOWLO/TENTERFIELD BOWLO 2YO HCP (1000M)

1. Airwaves is having his first start here. He’s had three trials in Victoria and resumes from a break here for a new stable. He’s well-bred and looks set to debut with a bold showing. 6. Kitsune Vixen is a filly on debut, and she has had two trials in preparation. She won the latest of them at Wyong by a narrow margin and jockey Jenny Duggan sticks here. 7. Skyza is another filly on debut, and she has also had two trials. She finished fourth in her second trial at Wyong. 3. It Stays In Vegas ran well enough when a last start third at Scone although safely held by the winner.

How to play it: Airwaves WIN.

Race 2 - 12:35PM ARMIDALE SERVICES/ NARRABRI RSL MAIDEN PLATE (1000M)

1. Hellwithasmile debuts here on the back of two trials, and he won the latest of them at Scone. Aaron Bullock takes the ride here and he is primed for a bold showing. 6. Rubilicious resumed with a fourth at this track when leading and has claims, while 7. See You Then has finished second in both starts either side of a spell and warrants respect. 8. Sorutal is a filly having her first start and was down the track in her only trial at this track.

How to play it: Hellwithasmile WIN.

Race 3 - 1:15PM INVERELL RSM/TAMWORTH SERVICES CLUB MAIDEN HCP (1200M)

1. Occult is having his first start for a new stable in this. He resumes on the back of two trials with a close-up second at Gunnedah being followed by an easy win at this track in a small field. He looks set to break through here. 3. He’sthechief won a Gunnedah trial before hitting the line well for a last start third at Dubbo. 6. Qui Rouge has finished second in her latest two starts and can figure again, while 7. Dartbrook has been racing well and can get into the placings again.

How to play it: Occult WIN.

Race 4 - 1:55PM ARMIDALE BOWL.CLUB/INVERELL SPORTIES SUPER MDN PLATE (1400M)

8. Spandex was resuming from a spell when hitting the line well enough for a third at Port Macquarie. That was on the back of two trials, and the step up to 1400m here second-up looks ideal. 4. Ghaznavi was midfield at Scone when last produced and has had a trial to be kept up to the mark for this. 2. Currumbin Alley ran a good second on debut at Gunnedah and then was a shade disappointing when midfield at Dubbo. 6. Preordain has been placed in five of 12 starts and is a minor money chance.

How to play it: Spandex WIN.

Race 5 - 2:35PM WEST TAMWORTH LEAGUES/WALGETT RSL BM82 HANDICAP (1200M)

2. Rhythm Is A Dancer won well at Inverell before running another good race when a last start second at Dubbo as favourite. He’s a consistent type that should be in the thick of things again. 3. Cambourne ran second behind Rhythm Is A Dancer at Inverell and can show up again if he can run up to that effort. 6. Our Boy Ollie resumes here after two trials. He is a last start city fourth placegetter with the advantage of barrier one. 9. Wanda River won well at Quirindi when resuming and is drawn to get a good run again.

How to play it: Rhythm Is A Dancer WIN.

Race 6 - 3:15PM WALGETT SPORTIES/URALLA BOWLO BM82 HANDICAP (1600M)

2. Fiorsum Fred ran a good race when finishing second in the Gunnedah Cup two starts ago and that was on the back of a Highway win at Scone. He stepped up to city grade when down the track at Randwick last time out, but this is easier. 8. Annulus has been placed in each of his latest two starts and warrants respect in this line-up. 7. Macleay was fifth in the Gunnedah Cup and then ran home well when a last start third at Dubbo. 5. Danza In The Dark has similar formlines and looms as a place chance.

How to play it: Fiorsum Fred WIN.

Race 7 - 3:55PM GLEN INNES SERVICES/ SOUTH TAMWORTH BOWLO C3 HCP (1400M)

9. Arrabbiata has been racing well with a placing at Quirindi when resuming being followed by a last start fifth at Muswellbrook when racing on the speed and battling on well. She’s been placed in two of three runs over this distance at this track. 11. Tosinsky won his maiden at Armidale last campaign and resumes here after a trial at Scone. 1. Oakfield Eagle resumes here after two trials and while his form was down last preparation he can lift. 4. Lord Protector wasn’t beaten far when fourth at this track last time out and has claims.

How to play it: Arrabbiata EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 4:35PM CLUBS NSW COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

4. Spanish Night was well fitted for debut after four trials and did the job well when justifying favouritism to score a strong win at Moree. He hit the line well in that event when coming from back in the field and only needs luck in running to go on with the job. 3. This One Time won two in a row here and at Dubbo before a last start second at this track after leading. She’s racing well enough to give this a shake. 6. Sharpen The Knives ran home back in the field for a last start third in the same race This One Time contested, while 7. Live To Rose resumes here and is a last start winner here.

How to play it: Spanish Night WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 4 (8) Spandex.
Race 8 (4) Spanish Night.

Best Value:
Race 7 (9) Arrabbiata.
