John Schell's Tips For Scone (Tuesday)

By John Schell

(Selections based on a good track)

Race 1 - 12:50PM YARRAMAN PARK MAIDEN HANDICAP (900 METRES):

3. De Luca is a filly on debut and has had two trials to prepare, finishing fourth in the latest of them at Warwick Farm. She looks to have the talent to make an impact here.

Dangers: 2. Bent As Hell had two trials before debuting with a fourth at Newcastle and should be better for that experience. 7. Capitamy has been placed in four of nine starts and can show up here without surprising. 13. Slay Queen is a filly on debut and she has had a coupe of solid recent trials to get prepared.

How to play it: De Luca WIN.

R2 - 1:25PM WIDDEN STUD- AUSTRALIA’S LEADING VENDOR C1 & MAIDEN (2200 M):

6. Bonaventure broke her maiden over 2300m at Newcastle three starts ago. She was since midfield at that track before running second at Wyong in a small field. She’s rarely too far away and can bounce back to winning form.

Dangers: 4. Subscribe Me wasn’t beaten far when midfield at this track two starts ago and ran a similar race at Mudgee last time out. He should get every chance from the inside here with Bullock aboard. 10. Ripping Missile has only had two starts and is quickly up to this distance. He was safely held after leading at Newcastle last time out but can improve here. 3. Every Effort has only won once from 54 starts, but he ran well on the Beaumont track two starts ago and a repeat of that would give him place claims here.

How to play it: Bonaventure WIN.

Race 3 - 2:05PM SCONE RSL COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES):

9. In Summer is on debut for trainers Paul Messara and Leah Gavranich and has had three trials to prepare for this. One of them was more than a year ago and the latest two in February and March have resulted in wins at this track at Muswellbrook. She’s drawn wide here but should be in the thick of things.

Dangers: 12. Russley Tiara debuted with a second behind Fuld’s Doubt at this track when racing on the speed and battling on well. She’s drawn ideally here and should give plenty of cheek again. 8. Read ‘Em And Weep finished third in the same race Russley Tiara was in last time out and is well worth including among the main chances again. 3. Gotta Fly was placed at Taree last time out and could figure in the minor money again.

How to play it: In Summer WIN.

Race 4 - 2:40PM SCONE EQUINE HOSPITAL MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES):

10. Super Story finished third at this track three starts back before a midfield effort, also here. He since ran well again when finishing second at Moree to make it 10 placings from 16 starts. He’s drawn the rails here and gets another chance to break through.

Dangers: 2. Noble One has been placed in six of nine starts and should be thereabouts, while 5. Palikari was placed on debut and can show up again. 7. Rhinestone Lad is on debut for trainer Kim Waugh and should be doing his best work late.

How to play it: Super Story EACH WAY.

Race 5 - 3:15PM THANK YOU JODY RODGERS BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1000 METRES):

3. Sightseer hit winning form at the end of his last preparation when scoring in successive races at Muswellbrook and Tamworth. He was spelled after the latest victory and has since had a trial at Wyong, in which he finished second, to prepare for this return.

Dangers: 4. Split Decision returned from a break in style when scoring a strong win at Newcastle. She’s won three of her seven starts and can go on with the job here. 6. Azayaka won well at Goulburn two starts ago before failing at Wyong. She can improve in this and rates as a leading chance. 7. Gold Lover led and fought on well when fourth on the Kensington track last tine out and a repeat of that would have her right in the thick of things.

How to play it: Sightseer WIN.

Race 6 - 3:50PM THANK YOU RUSTY GUTS COFFEE BM66 HANDICAP (1700 METRES):

16. Rockbarton Ice has had three runs back from a spell, scoring a strong Newcastle win when resuming before finishing third at Quirindi. He since ran home well enough for a midfield Newcastle effort when not beaten fat. The step up in distance should suit.

Dangers: 8. Overice has been racing well having finished second at Newcastle and Hawkesbury in two of her latest four starts. She has a wide gate to overcome, but has the talent to do so. 5. Caring Lass has been racing well, being just behind the placings in her latest three starts, and is worth including among the main chances. 1. Diamond Drummer’s form has been mixed, but he is handy enough on his day and could show up here on his best form.

How to play it: Rockbarton Ice WIN.

Race 7 - 4:25PM PRYDE’S RACING CUBE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES):

12. Fuld’s Doubt won her maiden in good style when resuming at this track two starts ago, then finished second at Tamworth when again hitting the line well as favourite. She steps up 100m in trip for this.

Dangers: 2. Tracy’s Spirit is first-up from a spell and is a winner of one from four. She’s had two trials to prepare for this. 11. Roman Miss won well when leading at Orange when resuming from a spell and can go on with the job. 9. Little Bit Flash was placed in all three starts, including a last start win at Wellington, at the end of 2023, and resumes from a spell here. She should be primed to run well.

How to play it: Fuld’s Doubt WIN.

Race 8 - 5:05PM KIA ORA STALLIONS COUNTRY BM 58 HCP (1400 METRES):

8. Gentileschi resumed at this track last month and was dominant when justifying an odds-on quote to score with ease. The step up in trip looks ideal and she is the one to beat again.

Dangers: 2. Zippi Idea looked good winning two on end at Muswellbrook before tackling Highway grade at Rosehill and not being disgraced when beaten three lengths. 5. Herne Hill had been racing well last campaign before not being disgraced in a couple of Highway runs and then being spelled. He resumed with a seventh at this track when beaten less than two lengths. 1. Shen Gui has drawn wide but has been racing well, having won here two starts ago and then finishing second at Taree.

How to play it: Gentileschi WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 6 (16) Rockbarton Ice.
Race 7 (12) Fuld’s Doubt.

Best Value:
Race 1 (4) Nerola.
