John Schell's Tips For Dubbo (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:45PM BARNSON COUNTRY BOOSTED MAIDEN HANDICAP (1300 METRES)

1. Blue Kingdom had two trials before making his debut with a solid second at Taree. He had his chance in that event as favourite and was doing his best work late. The slight increase in distance should suit here and he can break through with a win. 5. Xerxes was second-up from a spell when a close-up second at Tamworth when last produced. He’s drawn well here and should be prominent throughout. 9. Territories Spirit debuted with a solid fourth at Moree when leading and fighting on well enough. He can show up with a repeat of that effort. 10. Smart Buy had been racing well with a couple of seconds before a spell and resumed with a solid fourth at Scone.

How to play it: Blue Kingdom WIN.

Race 2 - 1:25PM ORANA MALL BENCHMARK 58 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

3. Grandini was in fine form winning two in a row at this track and then at Bathurst before finishing second at Scone. He since stepped up to Highway grade in town when failing to beat a runner home. He will find this easier, and a sharp improvement is on the cards. 6. Crown Legend followed a fourth at Warren with a last start second at Scone when racing on the speed and fighting on well. 5. Ain’t She Swell was placed at Warren two starts ago and wasn’t beaten too far when 10th at Wellington when last produced. 8. Just On Fire has been just behind the placings in his latest two starts and can make an impact.

How to play it: Grandini WIN.

Race 3 - 2:05PM PEACOCKES SOLICITORS SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

9. Supreme Style won a trial earlier in the year before debuting with a second at Coonamble. She followed that up with another second at Orange and was then spelled. She resumes from a spell here and has the talent to make a winning return. 11. Cuban Cigar is on debut and has run well in two trials, winning the latest on the Beaumont track at Newcastle. 12. Star Of Indigo is also on debut after three trials and won the latest at Gosford. 1. King Jerry resumes having been placed in three of four starts and warrants thought despite the wide draw.

How to play it: Supreme Style WIN.

Race 4 - 2:45PM ACTIVE EARTH LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

9. Kranich was in fine form winning three of four in May and June. He since took on Highway company at Randwick when finishing a game second. He only needs to maintain his form to be the one to beat here. 2. Lockdown Gamble is backing up after a midfield effort in last week’s Forbes Cup and has the talent to give this a shake. 7. Deion battled on OK for a fourth at Forbes last week and has claims on his best form. 1. Amicus Curiae was a last start third at Mackay and is talented at best.

How to play it: Kranich WIN.

Race 5 - 3:25PM WESTERN PLAINS AUTOMOTIVE CLASS 2 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

4. Highland Eightgee has hit his straps of late having won two in a row at this track and then at Kempsey. He can go on with the job in his current mood. 6. Sebilla was down the track in a Rosehill Highway when last produced but will find this an easier task. 7. Royal Armada is a last start Scone winner and has the advantage of barrier one here. 2. Haze was midfield at Grafton at his last start and his previous two starts were good enough for him to be considered a leading chance here.

How to play it: Highland Eightgee WIN.

Race 6 - 4:00PM GM SPECIALTY VEHICLES HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

9. Midnight Dream has been racing in great form with two straight wins at Narromine and this track being followed by a last start second here. He should be hitting the line hard. 11. Plenitude has been tackling Highway company of late and finished third at Randwick three runs back. 7. Enterprise Legend won well at Tamworth when resuming and wasn’t disgraced at Grafton last time out. 3. Mable will find this easier than her latest two starts in city grade.

How to play it: Midnight Dream EACH WAY.

Race 7 - 4:35PM TRACSERV DUBBO AND ORANGE COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 (1100M)

6. Upwardly Mobile resumes here and was a first-up winner at Scone last campaign. She’s a good fresh performer and comes into this after a solid trial at Scone when not beaten far. 8. Shaquila is a speedy type that has been leading and fighting on well of late. He is drawn wide but can give cheek. 4. Zahdi was a winner at this track late last year. She resumes here having not started since running fourth here in March. 5. Pressnell has shown ability but needs to lift on his two most recent runs.

How to play it: Upwardly Mobile WIN.

Race 8 - 5:10PM PINK ANGELS COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

11. Nova Centauri resumed with a strong win at Scone before a midfield Muswellbrook effort. She has barrier one here and is set to bounce back to form. 7. Panta Rhei ran well when a last start second at Muswellbrook in the same race Nova Centauri contested. 4. Wonder Step has looked good winning two out of three since resuming from a spell and should take plenty of beating again, while 2. Signatories won well at Scone before being beaten less than a length when a last start fourth at the same track.

How to play it: Nova Centauri WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (1) Blue Kingdom.
Race 2 (3) Grandini.

Best Value:
Race 6 (9) Midnight Dream.
