John Schell's Tips For Dubbo (Friday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 12:15PM WESTSIDE HOTEL SHOWCASE 3YO & UP MAIDEN (1000 METRES)

1. Fuel The Jet had two trials either side of a break before debuting with a third at Narromine in September last year. He only went down narrowly in that event and was then spelled. He resumes here having had a trial at Gunnedah in which he finished second, with third placegetter Spanish Night winning at Moree on Tuesday. 5. He’sthechief resumes here and has shown talent. He won a trial at Gunnedah over Fuel The Jet leading into this event. 4. Beaumista was first-up from a spell when finishing second at Tamworth and can make an impact again with a repeat of that. 7. Bouvier is an import that was midfield at Inverell at her Australian debut. She bears close watching.

How to play it: Fuel The Jet WIN.

Race 2 - 12:50PM KINGS HALL JEWELLERS SILVER GOBLET - 2YO HCP (1100 METRES)

3. Josephine looked good in two trials before debuting and racing on the speed to score a dominant victory at Gunnedah. She can go on with the job here. 1. Four Degrees ran well when placed at Mudgee before breaking through to score at Inverell in good style. 2. Blue De Beers is on debut and has looked good in two trials. 7. Czech Her Out ran well on debut then was safely held at her second start. She shouldn’t be taken lightly here.

How to play it: Josephine WIN.

Race 3 - 1:25PM PRECISION HEALTH CARE SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1300 METRES)

1. Currumbin Alley started favourite on debut at Gunnedah and ran home well to finish second. He’s drawn the inside here and should get the run of the race and break through with a win. 10. Grandini resumed at Tamworth last month and ran well when finishing second. She’s been placed in five of 10 starts and is worth including. 9. Count Your Pennies was midfield at Wellington when resuming and can get into the placings, while 4. Lord Vettori has finished second in each of his latest two starts with a sound effort at Goulburn last time out.

How to play it: Currumbin Alley WIN.

Race 4 - 2:00PM DUBBO RSL CLUB WINTER COUNTRY CLASSIC QUAL BM58 (1300 METRES)

2. Speedy Henry won at this track on debut last December then resumed with an easy victory at Scone at his second start. He since ran sixth in a Highway at Randwick before a last start third at Scone when battling on solidly. 3. Hammering Away was a winner at this track last November and since resumed with a fifth at Parkes. He has the talent to run well here. 1. Invasive has been racing well with a couple of recent placings and can be thereabouts again. 6. Rufus Winright was a winner at this track three starts ago and has since finished third in both runs. He drops in distance here and looms as one of the chances.

How to play it: Speedy Henry WIN.

Race 5 - 2:35PM DUBBO RSL CLUB WINTER COUNTRY CLASSIC QUAL BM58 (1300 METRES)

9. Missy Moss broke through in good style at Mudgee last time out when delivering on her potential and warrants plenty of thought again. 7. Miss Capricorn has won two of her last three starts and can be thereabouts, while 1. Willinga Karisma has been racing well with two recent second placings and is one of the chances again. 2. Hibiki Harmony won a couple last campaign and was placed at this track and Armidale before being spelled. She resumes here and bears close watching.

How to play it: Missy Moss WIN.

Race 6 - 3:10PM WESTERN PLAINS AUTOMOTIVE CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

2. Pressnell was well backed when resuming from a spell and did the job well to score a strong win. He followed that up with a fifth at Wellington as favourite. He’s drawn to get the run of the race here and can bounce back. 4. Gelsey ran home well enough when a last start fourth at Tamworth and can get into the placings. 6. Sorrento Palace has finished second in all three runs since resuming and warrants plenty of thought, while 7. Mythical Moochi won narrowly when resuming and has claims again.

How to play it: Pressnell WIN.

Race 7 - 3:45PM FARDELLS HEAVY HAULAGE & CRANE HIRE BM82 HCP (1000 METRES)

11. Cumnock ran well in Highway grade in a couple of runs before being spelled. He ran well in a couple of trials before resuming with a fifth at Orange and followed that up with a last start victory at this track. He drops in weight for this and can handle the class rise. 8. Yukon Rose resumed from a spell with a solid midfield effort at Taree and strips fitter. 4. Zakor was first-up when midfield at Gunnedah and has claims with the benefit of that run. 1. Iron Hat ran well when third in the same event Zakor contested and has claims again.

How to play it: Cumnock EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 4:20PM EVERGREEN TURF | ELITE SAND & SOIL BM82 HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

2. Rhythm Is A Dancer is a talented performer with a good record. He was back in winning form when scoring at Inverell at his latest start and looks to get his chance to go on with the job here. 1. The Dramatist was back to his best when scoring a strong win at Dubbo two starts ago and then failed to fire at Scone last time out. 4. Sizzle Minizzle had been racing well in Queensland before having his chance when midfield in the Parkes Cup. He can improve on that here. 7. Macleay was far from disgraced when fifth in the Gunnedah Cup last time out and has the rails alley in this.

How to play it: Rhythm Is A Dancer WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 1 (1) Fuel The Jet.
Race 2 (3) Josephine.

Best Value:
Race 7 (11) Cumnock.
