John Schell's Tips For Coffs Harbour (Sunday)

By John Schell

Selections based on a soft track

Race 1 - 11:50AM PETE MURRAY @ SAWTELL RSL MAIDEN HANDICAP (1315 METRES)

1. Piccaderro has raced well with three placings from six starts. He resumed from a spell with a fourth at Hawkesbury and has the advantage of the inside gate here. 4. Smashing Nova ran third on debut at Muswellbrook after leading. He has the talent to run well here again. 3. Pretty Dress has had a number of jumpouts and a trial and is worth including among the main chances. 5. Squatternut Bosh was beaten less than a length on debut at Wagga and only needs to run up to that to be a leading chance in this.

How to play it: Piccaderro WIN.

Race 2 - 12:28PM SAWTELL GOLF CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (1515 METRES)

11. Not My Problem was racing in good form when placed in a number of runs before being spelled. She resumed with a fifth at Gunnedah and then was only just edged out at Port Macquarie when last produced. She gets her chance here to go one better. 2. Cluster’s General has been placed in his latest two starts and warrants respect here again. 1. Causeways has shown talent in his career and should figure in the finish again, while 3. Dollars ran well when a last start second at Newcastle and he should figure prominently again.

How to play it: Not My Problem WIN.

Race 3 - 1:08PM SAWTELL BOWLING CLUB MAIDEN PLATE (1015 METRES)

1. Beebee had solid form last campaign with a couple of placings. He resumed at Port Macquarie last time out and finished fourth when running a solid race. He’s drawn well here, and the apprentice claim should be to his advantage. 6. Magic They Say hit the line well for a last start fourth at this track when doing her best work late. 3. Sivo enjoyed a good run in his latest start at this track. He looks set to run well again. 2. Prince Rupert resumes in this and a sharp improvement is on the cards.

How to play it: Beebee WIN.

Race 4 - 1:48PM SAWTELL HOTEL CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1415 METRES)

4. Hurricane Harlow ran we when beaten just over a length at the Sunshine Coast at her latest start. She was close-up in a recent Gold Coast trial to be kept up to the mark for this. 3. Dark Stratum went forward last time out on a heavy track last time out. He dictated terms and fought on well to score. 9. Rock Are Steiner has been placed in his last three starts and is worth thought. 1. Stylised wasn’t too far away last time out and is not out of this.

How to play it: Hurricane Harlow WIN.

Race 5 - 2:28PM HAPPY 80TH BIRTHDAY MA CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1415 METRES)

3. Fall For Autumn was having his third start in a race when going straight to the front here last time out and never being in danger when scoring an easy win. He should work forward here and take plenty of running down again. 8. Meghan was midfield at Port Macquarie when last produced and should play a part in the finish again here. 6. Zelestial won well at Tamworth when resuming and wasn’t beaten too far at Muswellbrook last time out. 4. Another Wish has been close-up of late and is not out of this.

How to play it: Fall For Autumn WIN.

Race 6 - 3:03PM BOAMBEE BAY SERVICE STATION & GENERAL STORE CLASS 3 (1215M)

1. Sammy Conquers All has been contesting three-year-old Quality events in Brisbane of late and this represents a significant drop in grade. He has a big weight but has the class to handle it. 9. Boambee Beach was back to her best form when going to the front at this track on June 20 and fighting on too well to score a dominant win. She only needs to run up to that effort to be hard to hold out again. 7. Aye Aye Skipper was a winner at Grafton three starts ago and comes into this after a last start placing at Port Macquarie. 2. Sir Boo was placed at Grafton when last produced and should run well again.

How to play it: Boambee Beach WIN.

Race 7 - 3:38PM SAWTELL RSL SAWTELL CUP (1515 METRES)

11. Ronny Rock Art has a great record and has been in the placings in 35 of 69 starts. He wasn’t beaten far at Canterbury two starts ago and then ran third at this track last time out just over a week ago. 5. Point Counterpoint wasn’t beaten far in his latest start at Port Macquarie and only needs to run up to that to be in the finish again. 1. Russian Roni ran second in the Wauchope Cup last time out and warrants plenty of thought again. 3. Indifference is ready to peak third-up from a spell.

How to play it: Ronny Rock Art EACH WAY.

Race 8 - 4:13PM SAWTELL CHILLIFEST COUNTRY BOOSTED BM58 HANDICAP (1015M)

6. Speedy Target is an on-pace galloper that should push forward from a wide alley here and take plenty of running down on the back of a last start second at this track when he led and fought on strongly. 1. Mr Damage resumes here on the back of a last start fourth at Port Macquarie in January when racing well. 2. De Forza is first-up from a spell here and bears close watching is anywhere near his best. 4. Love Rat has won two of his last four starts and should show up again if anywhere near his best.

How to play it: Speedy Target WIN.

Best Bets:
Race 2 (11) Not My Problem.
Race 3 (1) Beebee.

Best Value:
Race 7 (11) Ronny Rock Art.
