Foxy's Foxinator To Send Rivals Flying At Port

By Rod Fuller

With Jenny Graham racing against time to defend her title in the $500,000 Newhaven Park Country Championships Final at Randwick on 6th April, the stable looks to hold the aces in the feature race at Port Macquarie on Friday with Foxy’s Foxinator.

The son of Foxwedge put the writing on the wall for the assignment in the Petries Mitre 10 Class 3 Handicap with a narrow second behind Normality at his second run from a spell of six months.

This effort compounded the gelding’s encouraging resumption at Grafton when beaten a neck by Beach Baby and with these runs under his belt, Foxy’s Foxinator does look the testing material in the event.

The stable has engaged in-form jockey, Ben Looker, for the assignment following his successful day at Murwillumbah on Tuesday resulting in a riding treble.

The Colt Prosser-trained gelding, Phelpedo, is a horse on the rise and will be extremely competitive following a solid third at Coffs Harbour behind Magic Arli a couple of weeks ago, while Salad Dodger is a recent Taree winner, who is better than the last run at Grafton would indicate.

Following Victorem’s dynamic victory in last years Country Championships Final, the Graham stable face the prospect of attempting to qualify Let’s Rebelle in the Wild Card at Muswellbrook on Sunday in an attempt to gain back-to-back trophies.

The Rebel Raider mare had to be relieved of her engagement in the Port Macquarie qualifier following an outbreak of hives, but was able to respond with victory at Coffs Harbour by just under two lengths over Argyll Bay.

With a recent barrier trial placing at Taree under her belt, Let’s Rebelle approaches the Wild Card assignment at Muswellbrook with an ideal preparation and will provide the sole representation for the popular local mentor.

This follows the withdrawal of one of the Championship contenders in the shape of Awesome Pluck, who could only run third in the district qualifier and is currently on the injured list.

Noble Boy looks to provide the testing material in Sunday’s Wild Card event with a record of five starts for four impressive victories with Queanbeyan trainer, Todd Blowes, appointing Hugh Bowman for the ride.

On a well-balanced program at Port Macquarie on Friday, Sevini looks set to open the day on a good note for punters with victory in the Class 2 Handicap following an excellent victory at Tamworth two starts ago.

The Kris Lees-trained filly was not disgraced last start at Taree when second behind Cartel and Darryl McLellan has been engaged to partner the daughter of Sebring.

The Robert Thompson and Jason Deamer combination looks to hold the keys with the last start Taree winner, Showada, in the Benchmark 58 Handicap while Neretva has a 50% strike rate at Port and should provide the strongest opposition in race three.

Other good prospects on the card include the lightly-raced filly, Jenaya, who has been kept safe following a narrow second behind Lady Mossman at Port with Lightning Ally a live chance in race five for Kylie Gavenlock following encouraging placings at Gosford and Taree.

Lucky for Some deserves to break through for local trainer, John Sprague, following the gelding’s recent home track placings while Commute looks well placed in the last.

Port Macquarie Race Club is delighted to continue the association for Master Builders Raceday and welcome the support afforded by BDM Constructions, Kennards Hire, Fastplast Building Supplies, Stowe Australia, Elders Real Estate, Ascot Park / Nationwide Property Brokers, Petries Mitre 10, and Sovereign Hills for an action-packed day of racing.

The first event on an eight-race card is scheduled to commence at 1.30pm with the prospect of fine weather set to provide competitive racing and a strong attendance enjoying the outstanding trackside facilities.
