Dubbo Winners - Tips For Sunday 29th June

By Ray Hickson

Tips and race by race preview by Ray Hickson for Sunday’s Dubbo meeting. Selections based on a soft track.

Race 1 - 12:55PM DUBBO RHINO LODGE BM82 HANDICAP (1600 METRES)

2. Rebel’s Edge does appear nicely placed in this field and should get his chance from the inside gate. Too good at Taree on the heavy then shade unlucky when a close up fourth on his home track a couple of weeks ago. Rarely runs a bad race and is hard to beat.

Dangers: 4. Bush Telegraph comes through the same race from Muswellbrook where she sat up handy and weakened a bit late to run fifth. Last win was at this track and trip and has to be considered. 5. Ferrari Man is the likely leader after he gave a sight over the mile at Nowra in an improved showing. Big weight drop helps him be competitive. 1. Touch Of Navy is meeting a weaker field than he’s encountered for a little while and he wasn’t beaten far in the Wauchope Cup last start. No surprise to see him lift a bit.

How to play it: Rebel’s Edge WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 2 - 1:35PM DUBBO RSL MOTEL MAIDEN HANDICAP (1400 METRES)

3. Considered has been a beaten favourite at $1.50 and $1.75 at her two runs back but she’s been right in the finish of both and doesn’t need a whole lot go her way to break through. Stepping up in trip, the state’s leading rider on and nice draw. Must get another chance.

Dangers: 15. Epic Statement resumed in the same race as Considered and ran well but just likely found the 1200m a bit sharp fresh. So she’s aided by the extra ground and has also drawn soft. Is a 15 start maiden so that’s becoming a worry but good chance here. 8. Poiema has been freshened up since a couple of provincial placings and was a trial winner earlier this month. Another having 16th attempt but is consistent. 1. Phils Colours is lightly raced and likely fitter for a first-up placing at Parkes. Ran third in a similar race to this back in December and is not without an each-way chance.

How to play it: Considered WIN ($2.80 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 3 - 2:15PM DUBBO RSL CLUB WINTER COUNTRY CLASSIC FINAL BM58 (1300M)

2. Missy Moss has sprung to form this time in with an easy maiden win then comfortable again in the lead up to this race earlier this month. Draws the same gate, same rider and only up 0.5kg so she’d only have to hold her form to take beating again.

Dangers: 3. Willinga Karisma was well supported when finishing sixth in the same race behind Missy Moss and gets a small 1kg turnaround in her favour. Honest and is one of the chances again. 1. Miss Capricorn ran eighth in that race then back to 1100m and hit the line when the race was all over for a close second to a handy one at Coonamble. Up in trip again and shouldn’t be overlooked. 4. Avalicious also contested the lead up race and weakened after leading to be midfield. Likely fitter for that first-up run and no surprise if she’s more competitive this time.

How to play it: Missy Moss WIN ($2.50 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 4 - 2:50PM DUBBO RSL HEALTH & FITNESS BM58 HANDICAP (2200 METRES)

3. Image Of The Sun is going okay without winning and the way she found the line at Tamworth a couple of weeks ago at 2100m suggests she’s not far off. Decent class drop to 58 grade in her favour and she’s the horse to beat.

Dangers: 8. Deemee was outclassed in Sydney but form either side has been honest and didn’t give it up when close up fourth at Scone over this trip last week. Claim is a plus and she’s a threat. 6. On The Decs caused something of an upset when running over the top of them to score over 2000m at Bathurst. No reason she couldn’t hold some form now. 5. Yak bobs up now and then and won a similar race back on May 4 leading all the way. Two runs since have been below par but wouldn’t shock if he improved back here.

How to play it: Image Of The Sun WIN ($3.30 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 5 - 3:25PM NORTH DUBBO RSL SPORTIES SUPER MAIDEN PLATE (1100 METRES)

3. Hefty Price has had a few chances but he is quite consistent with 10 placings from 18 starts. Backed up a solid effort at Tamworth to just miss as an odds-on favourite at Narromine last week. Well weighted with the claim under set weights and gets another chance.

Dangers: 12. Spring Prospect is lightly raced with just three starts to date and was placed as favourite at Warren earlier this month when seemingly having her chance. Close to peak now after two runs this time in and is a player. 11. Noterbel had some support at her only start back in October and didn’t quite run up to it. Given some time, including a tie-back procedure, and no public trials make her a market watch. Stablemate 14. Rutley Exceeds ran an even race at his debut at Coonamble two weeks ago when a minor drifter at each-way odds in betting. Could be an improver.

How to play it: Hefty Price EACH-WAY ($6.00 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 6 - 4:00PM DUBBO RSL 178 RESTAURANT BENCHMARK 66 HANDICAP (1000 METRES)

8. Romantic Love showed plenty of promise in his first preparation back in the spring winning on debut then placing in two subsequent starts. Fitter for a recent trial win at this track and while taking on more experienced horses draws to have his chance fresh.

Dangers: 6. Octavian Treasure disappointed when well in the market at Newcastle last time but was beaten half a length at Tamworth before that in this grade. Leading rider takes over and she should be respected. 2. Cumboogle dropped to the 800m at Narromine and just failed after finishing strongly late. Backs up and while he’s only placed once in nine runs at this track he’s down 4kg and is more than capable of featuring. 5. Midnight Dream also backs up from last week having scored a nice come from behind win over the 1100m, his first win beyond 1000m. Down 2kg for the class rise and could hold his form.

How to play it: Romantic Love WIN ($2.25 TAB Fixed Odds).

Race 7 - 4:35PM DUBBO CITY & GILGANDRA TOYOTA DUBBO GOLD CUP DAY – SUNDAY 28 SEPTEMBER CLASS 1 HANDICAP (1100 METRES)

3. Pressnell has the wide gate to overcome but he’s got some tactical speed and you could almost argue the inside gate didn’t help his cause when narrowly beaten here last time. Lightly raced and just needs the right run in transit to go close.

Dangers: 4. Wasted Days has also drawn out but alongside his biggest danger so that’s probably not a bad thing. He’s racing well and did run third in that race back on June 6 just behind Pressnell before a narrow defeat at Muswellbrook. Go well. 1. Brutal Love has to be kept safe fresh. First past the post when resuming last time in but was disqualified. Rested after winning at Orange in January and can pose a threat. 2. Missile Defence may find 1100m a bit sharp but he’s fresh and did race well at a bit better level last time in just over a bit more ground. Trial winner and can at least be hitting the line.

How to play it: Pressnell WIN ($2.10 TAB Fixed Odds).
