Albury’s premiership-winning trainer is out to start the new season with a bang unveiling a promising four-year-old mare at Monday’s Wagga meeting on the Riverside course.
Impending Imprint ($3.80 into $3 on TAB) is a first starter in the Donna Scott stable by Group 1 winner Impending and out of a mare by renowned wet track performer Hinchinbrook.
She opens her career behind two improving trials, the latest a real eye-catcher when settling at the back over 900m at Albury on a Soft 7 before cruising down the middle to win with something in hand.
It was the work of a debutant primed to find the line in suitable going when she tackles the Aggies Raceday September 20 Maiden over 1200m, with leading jockey Blaike McDougall in the saddle.
Donna Scott [pictured left] finished the 2024/25 season with a solid run yielding three winners from her last 20 runners, significantly all on heavy ground.
Meanwhile, fellow Albury trainer Ron Stubbs takes an even bigger team to Wagga on Monday after finishing the past season with three winners from his last 25.
And he has two first starters - Lover Man ($101), a four-year-old by Golden Slipper winner Vancouver, and McPhillamy ($81), a three-year-old by Flying Artie - accepted to run against Impending Imprint.
But it’s later on the program where he will be banking on one of his more talented runners reproducing his best in a competitive and open NSW Jockeys Association Class 1 Handicap over 1065m.
Ti Tree Royal ($11), an often unreliable four-year-old son of Irish sire Royal Meeting, still has only one win from five starts since debuting 10 months ago.
Back then he had been a good worker on the track, but failed to fire in three runs last spring on firm ground before being sent for a long break.
Ti Tree Royal finally returned with a dominant front-running win in soft ground at Corowa in early June before dropping out in very shifty going at home two weeks later.
Given another freshen-up and a smart trial win on a Soft 7 rating, the gelding finally looks ready to release his potential, despite facing an open field from a wide draw at Wagga.
