Country & Provincial Championships Finals Continue To Build

By Mark Brassel

The line-ups for the $500,000 Country Championships Final (7 April) and $500,000 Provincial Country Championships Final (14 April) run at Royal Randwick are rapidly taking shape.

Talented gallopers Suncraze and Caerless Choice are the latest pair to claim berths for the Country Championships Final after finishing one-two at Scone on Sunday.

Just a day earlier, Serene Miss had defeated Newsfan and Can't Find Snippy at Gosford with all three booking places in the Provincial Country Championships.

There are now 12 horses into the Country Final with nine booked for the Provincial Final and more to come this weekend.

As part of The Championships, the TAB Editors' Challenge now has a strong following right around NSW whereby relevant newspaper editors & support their local horses that are heading to Royal Randwick.

TAB supports the Editors' Challenge and is sponsoring both the Country and Provincial Finals with the first and second horses home (first three in the Provincials) in each newspaper's region, then having those horses running for the newspaper's favourite charity in the Final.

Last year TAB gave $5000 to the each of the two Final winners, namely Free Standing (Grafton Examiner) whose selected charity was Westpac Rescue Helicopter, and Maryore (Illawarra Mercury) with their $5000 cheque going to Friends of Wollongong Botanic Garden.

The latest charities now having horses run for them are 'Where There's a Will' (Scone Advocate's charity) and 'Shoebox Revolution'(Central Coast Express).
