Messara's Insight Into Stable's Prospects At Muswellbrook (Thurs)

By Tony Megahey

Barrier trial devotees are chomping at the bit as profile stables produce numerous emerging talents primed for Thursday’s capacity seven-race Muswellbrook TAB meeting.

On debut are three-old gelding Kayobi ($5.50 on TAB) from the first Australian crop of the mighty Maurice (Jpn), Adios ($5) a Snitzel protégé, while performed Free Rider ($5.50) resumes after winning a trial with plenty in hand.

Kayobi significantly won his hit-out in faster time than his experienced three-race winning stablemate.

Kayobi is in the International Punters 3YO Maiden 1280m, from an ideal inside draw for Jeff Penza.

John Sargent’s Healthy Beauty ($3.30) is second favourite on TAB with the experience of a debut Goulburn placing.

Adios is also drawn favourable for Christian Reith in a Horsepower Maiden 1000m.

“They're progressive three-year-olds, trialled well enough, but I’m not sure if Kayobi is quite there mentally, so I haven’t made a final decision,” Paul offered.

“Adios has had the four trials and is a nice enough type, while Free Rider is forward off two trials without having a chance to go through the form just yet.”

The Lees, Maher & Eustace, Portelli, Baker and Sargent stables have 'watch' trialists on debut throughout the day.

Typically, NSW premiership-winning apprentice Reece Jones, who topped the century of wins last season, has a full book; three for his boss Rod Northam.

“Always a tough day with big fields and so many first starters but Belleofthehunter ($6.50) is close to winning a maiden, she did a few things wrong when rode her last start but I don’t know the debut runners,” Reece said.

“I rode Hammoon Jig (race 5, $13) to win a maiden for the boss (Rod Northam) and it’s a progressive type. But like I said, a wide open day."

At present Muswellbrook is a Soft 5 in fine weather.
