Silver Bullets To Hit The Target At Coffs Harbour's Reschs Raceday

By Mark Brassel

A sizeable crowd of beer lovers will target Coffs Harbour on Saturday with the inaugural Reschs Raceday.

Many attending are part of the ‘Reschs Appreciation Society’ and will be primed on Friday night with a Calcutta at a local hotel.

“We’re anticipating a decent crowd with many staying in Coffs to watch the Rugby League the following day,” said Coffs Harbour Racing Club’s CEO, Tim Saladine.

“Of course, the Reschs will be flowing from our outlets.”

Saturday’s Coffs raceday is run in tandem with the NRL’s Cronulla Sharks v Gold Coast Titans game at the nearby C.ex Coffs International Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Sky Racing’s Dave Stanley will be a guest at the races and is to draw the winning ticket in a unique raffle raising money for charity.

Stewart Meredith, Carlton & United’s Business Development Manager, described the major prize: “CUB previously made and sold Reschs Pilsner cans, affectionately known as Silver Bullets.

“The Reschs Appreciation Society lobbied CUB for some time to bring them back and it worked; we are now making them again.

“CUB then donated the very first carton of Silver Bullets off the production line to the Reschs Appreciation Society to raffle for a charity and the carton came with a Certificate of Authenticity.

“That carton was won by Keith Street who graciously donated it to back to be raffled again at the Reschs Raceday next Saturday.

“Keith asked that the monies raised be donated to a female charity and we selected the local Pink Silks Trust.

“The carton comes still wrapped in plastic with the original consignment note and the Certificate of Authenticity.

“The race club will sell raffle tickets up until the start of the last race with Dave Stanley drawing the winner.”

Coffs Harbour will be staging six races on the TAB program with plenty of outside seating, bar facilities and food options available.

Tim Saladine added: “We have a special $129 ‘Reschs Luncheon Ticket’ which gives raceday entry, a gourmet buffet lunch, four hours of free-flowing Reschs beer, wine or soft drink, a racebook and premium allocated seating on a private balcony.

“General admission guests will be given access to the Merv Mercer Lounge and trackside area.”

Murwillumbah trainer Matthew Dunn has entered Our Flaming Moes for the Class 1 and Maiden Plate (1600m) at Coffs where the filly is sure to be well-fancied.

The three-year-old, by Sizzling, finished fifth at Doomben (1350m) in March before freshened when third to Ellastra at Grafton (1410m) on April 30.

Last start Our Flaming Moes was again third to Loco Mojo over 1550m on her home track on May 10.
