Outcome Of Appeal – John Sprague (Racing Appeals Tribunal)

John Sprague - Before the Racing Appeals Tribunal of NSW

Licensed trainer John Sprague lodged an appeal on severity of penalty to the Racing Appeals Tribunal against the decision of the Racing NSW Appeal Panel to disqualify him under AR178 for a period of 12 months to commence on 23 February 2018 and to expire on 23 February 2019, on which day Mr Sprague may reapply for his licence.

The appeal was heard on Wednesday, 27 June 2018 by the Racing Appeals Tribunal presided by Mr D.B. Armati at the offices of Racing NSW commencing at 10am.

The Tribunal gave the following orders:

1.  Appeal against penalty upheld.
2.  Penalty for breach of AR178 of a 10-month disqualification in lieu of a 12-month disqualification. Penalty to commence on 23 February 2018 and to expire on 23 December 2018 on which day Mr Sprague may reapply for his licence.
3.  50% of the Appeal deposit refunded.
