Wet Won't Dampen Nisbet's Confidence In Taytay Bay (Kembla Saturday)

By Ray Hickson

Trainer John Nisbet is expecting Taytay Bay to relish the conditions and produce another bold showing at Kembla Grange on Saturday.

Taytay Bay has never faced a heavy surface but his excellent form of soft tracks has Nisbet confident he will get through the expected rain affected conditions.

The son of Headwater has been racing consistently this preparation and wasn’t far away from adding a second win for the campaign with a strong second at the Sapphire Coast.

Jockey Louise Day will attempt to help Taytay Bay go one better in the Greenway Turf Solutions Conditional Benchmark 64 Handicap (1600m).

“He is very genuine,” Nisbet said.

“He has got stronger as he got older but he has a bit of a turn of foot these days.

“All of his runs this time have been good. He tries hard, travels in his races and likes the wet so I think he’s pretty well placed.”

Kembla was rated a Heavy 10 on Friday with the slight chance of a shower forecast for race day.

Nisbet is hoping Hold gets the chance to chase back-to-back victories in the Multi Civil And Rail Benchmark 64 Handicap (1000m).

The daughter of Better Than Ready is the first emergency with Nisbet also nominating the mare for Moruya on Sunday as a back-up plan.

Hold was a winner at Nowra last start but needed to go back to the trials after suffering a bleed.

Nisbet expects she’s ready to run well if she gets her opportunity at Kembla.

“We put her in at Moruya because we thought she might not get a run and she still mightn’t but we want to go to Kembla,” he said.

“She is another one that loves the wet and Moruya is a bit of a graveyard for our horses so hopefully we can get her to Kembla.

“She had a little bleed after her last run, which I don’t know why, so we had to trial her but she has never showed any signs of that.

“Her work has been fantastic since.”

Apprentice Zac Wadick has been booked to steer Hold.
